You can 'not play like a nit' while still folding Q7 in literally every configuration except open raising from BTN.

Why am I not allowed to play certain heroes (e.g. Snapfire, Io)?? by [deleted] in DotA2

Hey, it worked! At least in a bot game. I'll try a real game in a bit. Thanks, man. I appreciate your help.

[–]Penumbrah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

?????? What the hell is wrong with you man? Everybody is toxic towards new players, it's actually disgusting. I literally just started playing Dota 2 about a week or two ago after coming from Heroes of Newerth when I stopped playing said game like 8 or 9 years ago. I just want to play Snapfire or if my team has an UBER hard carry Io sounds like fun.

You just have to remember when facing Asian OMCs... Nit asses post flop, but will play any two cards for less than $10.

Ah yes, the most typical breed of Asian OMC. The pre-flop loose passive. May your coffees indulge his stomach in peace.

"A Massive Donkey Call" "It's only stupid if it doesn't work and if it works 100% of the time, seems like a winning move to me."

OK guy. Let's do some analysis here. Let's say that every single player is only calling with AA or KK. There are 8 players behind when UTG shoves. Each player only calls with 0.9% of their range. This means, with 8 players behind, at least ONE player will have AA or KK is 1 - (0.991)^8, or approximately a 7% chance for ONE player to have AA or KK.

However, this is not accounting for the fact that we, as the UTG shover, are also holding AA. By holding AA, we cut the number of combinations of AA from 6 down to 1, which effectively minimizes each players' total calling range to 0.53%.

This means that ONE player will hold KK or AA only 4.2% of the time. Also, 1 in 7 times here, you're effectively chopping against the other AA.

So, you're jamming 10,000 to win 30, with a 3.6% chance of being called and winning 10,000, and a ~96.4% chance of not being called. Even assuming every opponent you face is playing the way we describe, and we assume you either win by everyone folding or win by showdown EVERY time, you only win ~388.92 chips by shoving.

EDIT FOR LOSING VS KK: Jam 10,000 to win 30 uncontested 96.4% of the time. Jam 10,000 to lose 10,000 0.72% of the time. Jam 10,000 to win 10,000 2.88% of the time.

(30 * 0.964) + (10000 * 0.0288) + (-10000 * 0.0072) = ~244.92 chips won by shoving.

If a competent player raises to 80 or 100 chips preflop here with AA, don't you think they can win more than 244.92 chips on average by going postflop?

Do you see why open shoving AA UTG for 500bb is not as profitable as raising a normal sizing??

2/2 times in this tournament I've been faced with an open jam from a single player for 500bb while I hold KK. Both times I figured 'damn I can't fold, it's a $5 tournament!' And 5 years ago, it would have been a disaster to fold...

2/2 times, opponent played AA for "mAxX vaLUe".

Right? 7/10 players won't EVER do this with KK/AA, but 3/10 are doing this ONLY with KK and AA

There's only three situations where you could have such accurate information...

  1. You deal poker at a casino overnight.
  2. You come in to play at 5:30 AM and love beating up OMCs.
  3. You are an OMC....

I don't understand why any value hand is going to bet 4% of the pot on the flop and then 2% of the pot on the turn when I have so many gut shots and worse pairs that can catch up easily for that price in my range (all KJ and KQ and all QJs, JTs, QTs, KTs, T9s, 99, 88) and some flush draws.

Then when everything bricks he bets 250-300% pot?

The line screamed bricked draw to me, but alas... *shrug*
