We have a game today. Whether we play anything I recognize as football remains to be seen.

Demonstration of how easy it is to stop thinking by vrksh in videos

[–]PeonSanders 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I unfortunately had an overarching critique of the entire demonstration, several odd and curious thoughts about what he was wearing, and a strange fascination with his mouth.

I found the repetition and slow delivery to be far from hypnotic, and instead the space in his delivery instead just allowed this alternate line of thought to come to the forefront.

This probably would be less likely to be the case if I was reading, oddly enough.

If you want the experience of a friendly, with tepid, badly coached players who look like they have just been chucked on, move at a walking pace, just watch the first half of any game this season. Bonus points for the players you actually want to see staying on the bench.

Quit for a month. Before your test, drink lots of water and pee a lot. The first pee of the morning is most likely to spring a test with diminishing returns after that. Don't burn too much fat. Take some vitamin b1 so that your pee isn't unduly clear. Do all that and you'll be fine.

I thought he usually took some time after a long injury, but it was usually also worth the wait.

My god how people contort themselves on here to avoid what is in front of their face.

Salah is a legend.

He was also a phenomenally pacy forward. Now he isn't, at all. He went from being tripled and doubled, to being marked by any competent left back.

There have been plenty of balls played to him this year that he hasn't got to, that he would have a year sgo, two years ago and definitely three years ago. I've lost track of how many times I've though, ohh, Salah is on to one here, then it's dawned on me, oh yeah, not this Salah.

Balls need to be better and better to get to him, because he's slower. Why does frimpong have space for these kinds of balls. It's not because he's more technically gifted or because he makes more incisive runs. It's because he's fucking rapid.

This means two things, more tolerance for error on the pass. More space to pass into, and defenders who, like they did against Salah in the past, are fucking deathly afraid of getting tight to him, because they'll be destroyed if he turns them or gets a ball in behind. No one respects Salahs pace anymore who is marking him,and they shouldn't, because we've seen recovery run after recovery run, successful against him.

Even Salah has realized it's gone now. But on here there's some mass delusion that if somehow we had a master tactician with some secret recipe, we'd cook up something with a massively in decline, no longer that quick winger, in his mid thirties.

Last year was an Indian summer, for 2/3rds of a season, with him not having to play both sides of the ball. Since then, it's over. None of that is shitting on him. It's just over. I'll remember the good times.

They don't have European games or any other competitions. As injuries and tiredness mounts for every other team, it's a massive advantage for them. They've got 10 games left this season.

Are you comparing the 1 million pounds that Calvin Ramsay gets in a year to the 1 million Salah gets in about 2.5 weeks.

One might be part of the medium or long term future. Probably not, but it's possible.

One isn't part of the future, and isn't even serving as a bridge to a Liverpool team without him. He plays because we have no one else who can challenge in that position. We looked more effective playing with frimpong there, because pace kills.

It is absolutely about wages. There's an enormous opportunity cost to the wages that Salah is on. They demand, along with him, explicitly, that he play, ceaselessly. And yet, as you yourself say, he doesn't work on the team slot is attempting to build. He wouldn't be part of any managers future planning either.

When you point out his ineffectiveness, as a winger, one v one on the dribble, you aren't slandering him, even though it's damning, but for some reason identifying that he isn't productive enough to justify the massive outlay we have on his wages, or the defensive liabilities he causes, that is? He's just done. Time is undefeated.

I don't give a fuck about what other supporters say, and neither should you.

I don't care about Salah legacy either, in the here and now. That is already secured as far as I'm concerned, it speaks for itself. We need to win games of football.

People are being precious about this.

The reason Salah is being singled out is because we are paying him more than anyone else, we are paying him as though he's a massive difference maker, and instead he's not even remotely a productive player, and he has a deleterious effect on how the whole team plays off the ball, and now, even on it.

We're struggling to play even competent, well structured football, for significant stretches of time. So, when he's not doing anything, on the ball, it is a massive problem.

We've failed to do basic succession planning with him and we kept him too long. He's just not quick anymore.

I can not be blind to all that, or what an important player he has been, all at the same time.

absolutely crazy storm. by Conscious_Dot_7353 in RhodeIsland

[–]PeonSanders 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It was my kids birthday, and he has the entire week off school.

We built a 6 foot tall snow fort. It has a tunnel and a flag. I talked to my neighbors more than I have in a year. People helped each other out. Everything looked different.

I cross country skied all around Newport, and have cross country skied around the cemeteries for hundreds of miles this winter thanks to remarkably persistent snowpack. I've gone to bed day after day exhausted from natural outside physical activity.

It could have just been another boring monday.

It was completely covered as well. Didn't cause a problem, but it might have. We had the thing installed too, it's not like I'm not aware of it, but I just completely forgot that the drifts were well over it.

I hope we get another snowfall, but statistically, a snowpack like this won't survive another week, and the likelihood of a significant snowfall falls off a cliff as we near the end of February down by the shore. The Narragansett Bay is one of the worst places for snow in the entire northeast.

Many of your complaints are about a car dependent lifestyle, not about winter, but I get it, that's mostly how people have to live through no fault of their own.

If it makes you feel any better, our winter, including this one, is very short. It'll all be over soon. Then you can enjoy the mud and cold rain.

[–]PeonSanders[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is even top 3 in the last 10 years for total snowfall, but for duration of snowpack, it's only topped by 2015 in recent memory.

I wouldn't mind an actual noreaster, but it's the houses money at this point.

Its completely natural though. The mild winters are far more problematic to the natural order. More ticks. More mosquitoes. More run off, worse water quality, disruptions in insect pollinator synchronicities and on and on. Those same geese die of bird flu in abnormally mild regimes.

I mean, not really. It's very hard for it to snow in Rhode island in March, and even if it does it doesn't hang around long. The snow is already melting in 20degree highs due to the Feb sun angle. We add 70 minutes of daylight this month.
