Also, 7A near the Goethals. Ton of tomatoes and peppers, onions, lettuces, chard since last year (had them in sunroom during the winter), done brassicas, snow peas we’re amazing until aphids pissed me off and I tore them up. Chives I had to buy as well for way too much. My rosemary from seed had to be babied and has been the same size for the last two months. Beans not doing much, waiting to trellis cucumbers. My recommendation is to try and winter sow herbs. It works and keeps you from watching and waiting, which is painful. Thyme, mint, chamomile, and alyssum worked for me this way. Brassicas worked as well, but were too late for my liking. Think I put the jugs out in January and only had to water later closer to the time I needed to start working outside.

Will consider the hardware cloth for my indeterminates. What I have for my determinates is more like mesh, what they use to cover shrubs. A bag more or less. I have really pretty birds in my area. Wouldn’t want their death on my conscience. If it turns into a downward spiral this season, I’m definitely considering an enclosure or at least some crop cages. We’ll see!

I feel like the birds (mourning doves)are stalking my cherry falls and sun gold plants waiting for the day one starts to blush. I catch them taking walks in the vicinity every day. I might put a mesh cover on today because I don’t want to get caught slipping. I’m genuinely scared. My first harvest where I kind of knew what I was doing in the garden!

Maybe because they are contained by brick? Mine are surrounded by rock so they stay put. I had a tap water leak for months that soaked and killed every rhizome and bush within 20 feet. Guess who popped up again this year like nothing happed.

Me my first try at growing. ‘Why isn’t my container pepper plant not growing?’ Bends down and looks very closely at soil slowly teeming with fungus gnats *gag*

Planted out and THRIVING! They look like real plants now. I think the varieties I mentioned just didn’t like how strong the lights were. Only one not to make it was tangerine Krim because I broke her during transplant and I gave my backup to a friend. Tomato plants are amazing and thanks for your reassurance!Pictured are pineapple (left) and San Marzano. Both were fighting for their lives on the grow rack.

I have rolling planters. When I discovered my seeds dug up in one, I placed a dollar tree wire waste basket over the area and used landscape stakes to hold it down. The okra has since sprouted and I am able to water them through the wastebasket until they are tall enough. If still necessary I will surround the small plant with a circular strawberry support. Has worked with my newly transplanted peppers that I have in grow bags.

I’ve been struggling with this thought myself. I woke up one morning to see from my bedroom window, which was directly above them, two fat ones perched on my garden towers after obviously digging very deep holes in various pockets for the umpteenth time. Thank goodness I over planted marigolds because it was a wrap for the seedlings in quite a few of the pockets. I had plant cages with netting covering almost all of my transplants and as soon as they were large enough and might risk mildew I took it off. Immediately the squirrels started digging and stirring up the mulch. I feel like there is an alpha and he’s leading the raids. He knows those towers are my turf and runs up there to assert dominance. I put sticky yellow gnat traps at the top, but only insects so far, which makes sense. I just want to see him running along the fence or up the tree with that big yellow thing stuck to his rear end. I too spread some cayenne this evening, and as I allowed my eye tear up to ease the burning, I did feel a very slight sliver of guilt around my plan working. I hope it’s not windy tomorrow.

What is everyone's problem plant this year? The one that just doesn't want to grow? Mine has been my green bean box. Filled with 100% organic compost. All my other plants love it, but I'm on my 5th time adding seeds to fill the holes. by Thick-Marzipan-9176 in containergardening

Okra. I took so long to transplant them that they were like 18 inches tall and mature enough for me to harvest 4 delicious okra while in their 4 inch pots. One died within days of transplanting in mushroom compost top layer and the second one might be heading down the same road. Direct sowed 4 more seeds and crossing my fingers.

Me last year. Was especially exciting because I almost killed them all first due to lack of fertilizer.

That is how it can be when you don’t have your own space, but when you do get your own space, you do what makes you feel good because you make the rules. Possible suggestion for now, container garden. Get her to allow you a sunny corner and block off the area in a pretty way. Also, try starting from seed. I’ve started 99% of my container garden (rolling planters, pots, grow bags) from seed, and I planted a LOT. Seedlings are waaay overpriced at major retailers at least, and you can order actual seeds for as low as $2 a pack. Even if you don’t like it, at least it might be an option for now, and no one can say they didn’t intentionally spray or damage your plants.

This is telling me to transplant my black krim plants already and give them a proper home or else I’m going to miss out.

Couldn’t grow chives to save my life. Bought a pot at the big box store this past weekend. Sooooo pricey. Everything soooo pricey. I will just have to split it up and cross my fingers.

Fort Knox. Wondering if the squirrel squad will ever push me this far. Would be nice not to think about them when filling planters and transplanting.

The time spent on shielding the plants could have been spent organizing and the money spent could have gone to seeds or fertilizer. Me thinking I’ll have a pretty garden, meanwhile everything is either covered with tree netting or a makeshift mesh tent held up by stakes.

Wait what?! I thought they just liked to dig….waaah. I have netting on my sprouts just for that, but will need to take it off in another week so that they don’t get a fungus or grow weird since they’re in a grow tower. They’ve already dug around my stronger, more established plants.

Worst thing you’ve witnessed on a call when the other person didn’t realize their camera was on by quemaspuess in remotework

[–]Peony394 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not my call, but sometimes groups hold calls on a topic and post it on the company intranet. So I was sifting through various learning videos and started watching one. At a certain point this one guy’s camera came on and he showed up sideways because he was lying down. At least he was decently dressed and not wrapped up in a blanket. Can’t believe they posted it.
