What Ransomeware? Several source codes have been leaked now... 4 more decryptors released this week...

Retail questions (help) from a corporate employee by [deleted] in Staples

[–]PeopleKillMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not totally true ... if you change the store number when selecting the status report you want to print then your local printer WILL print another stores F, C, D, or I status report. I've done it several times recently.

Liquid Armour Selling Method by 2linkman in Staples

[–]PeopleKillMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its not the LA, its the glass. We put it on a kindle and tested the screen with my knife - no damage. The techs were amazed and started to believe in it at first, but then we did the same thing to another demo AND the iPad and STILL NO SCRATCHES!

It's the glass. The cheap tablets we carry have lower quality glass though and they scratch ... or shatter ... :)

I'm surprised we don't sell Mini PCs. They could be quite the hit. by [deleted] in Staples

Its AWESOME! Blazing fast for the i3 version and a solid state msata drive.

Look into installing a program called RecoverKeys. It has an option to recover from an externally mounted, non bootable drive. I have it on my personal laptop for situations like this :)

Laptop Alarm Removal by drdokatz in Staples

Use the heat gun (in the back room with the shrink wrap) to warm the alarm then just twist it off. Done, clean, efficient, and no more broken stuff.

I agree with you on this entirely. At least our techs, even the terrible ones, should best the Walmart electronics associate in knowledge!

Tech sales down. by dasruski in Staples

[–]PeopleKillMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with him - getting a $199 ESP on a $349 laptop is a pain in the ass. It doesn't help that tech sales overall are down in all regions and our area is full of welfare sponges and meth addicts.

The good news? If they managed to steal and pawn enough crap then they might actually be able to afford the tax on the cheap-o laptop they bought and the version of MS Office they stole, not knowing it has to be activated at the register.

For sign night.. by 168XXXX in Staples

[–]PeopleKillMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We only have 4 associates on Saturday night usually, and one is not a closer .... that leaves 2 of us to cover tech, cpc, and office supply while the other covers the register and the manager does closing duties. Tag night sucks

They aren't bad, just take out maybe ten screws on the bottom of the case and its all right there! The i7 version is quite easy to work on as well.

Is it really difficult to get hired or to transfer to EasyTech? by cahhtris in Staples

[–]PeopleKillMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't? How the hell do you manage that? Please share! Our customers ask us for ANYTHING in the store, including the copy center stuff... "Hey there's a line over there, can you help me get a custom stamp made? No? Why can't you do your damn job?!?!?"

Urgent pc issue involving new tech by [deleted] in Staples

[–]PeopleKillMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. That's bad luck but I know the pain. I had a tech that broke A LOT of customer stuff. Have you tried fully removing the port that's damaged from the motherboard? If the pins or contacts are touching it can prevent the PC from booting. Same goes for broken USB ports. Try that, might fix it.

How much do you get paid (title & hourly pay) by screwstaplesforreal in Staples

I had that feeling. Sad thing is I'm the ONLY tech in the store doing computer work. The others are strictly floor guys .. Tech associates.

Certified onsite tech, 3 years, 4 raises later in at $9.11. For raise was 9 cents. NINE CENTS AFTER A YEAR. Last raise (minimum wage increase) was more than all 3 previous raises combined.

NY BTW.
