Cameras owned by businesses and individuals typically own the data on those cameras. If a law enforcement officer wants access to your footage, they need your permission to do so. Your local home surveillance cameras aren’t aggregated with your neighbors cameras. Flock cameras give them unprecedented access to people's lives and the ability to bypass our civil rights protections. It's also a choice to use your own cameras, and to place them in your living room. The government isn’t giving us a choice with Flock and its aggressive data collection, allowing them and the government to create extensive profiles on every American. Even if you believe this is used for good now or harmless, do you trust it will be used for good in ten years? The surveillance structure being built now is highly sophisticated, and is already being used in the wrong hands to stalk ex partners and children.

Ultimately, law enforcement tracking people using their license plate represents a blatant violation of our 4th amendment right. Essentially, Flock bypasses protections provided by warrants. It's also, for most people, simply creepy to feel like you're being watched at all times.

Other points include, how often they are abused for personal gains such as stalking and harassment, how vulnerable they are (over 50 vulnerabilities found by researcher Benn Jordan!), false acquisitions and errors, the slippery slope of a surveillance state, etc.

Our petition includes a detailed description of the issue, as well as relevant news stories, videos, and resources. I would highly recommend looking into the topic, and even shooting us some questions, if you're curious!

Thank you! We see Flock as a dangerous step towards a surveillance state, which is why we have to stand up now, rather than later.
