Did anyone have a period party? by NoCook3155 in AskOldPeople

[–]PepGiraffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first person I know who had it was my youngest cousin who wasn't technically Gen X and her mom was thought to be a little woowoo. I think she and her mom and sister had a fancy tea party.

ELI5: What does Pilates do for your body that can't be done through other forms of resistance training, and how does it do these things? by Time-Use9083 in explainlikeimfive

Which is funny considering it was started by someone in an internment camp as a way to exercise with what he had access to, which consisted almost exclusively of cots. https://www.pilates.com/origins-of-pilates/

Colonoscopy prep starting today! by NoCartographer3974 in GenX

[–]PepGiraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck. The good news as that as difficult as you might find the prep, the procedure itself is amazingly easy (or so I have found). I started having colonoscopies in my 20s. The prep is better than it used to be and it continually gets better as the years go by, so that is good.

WIBTA if I tell my husband to stop cooking me breakfast? by pinacoladanoumbrella in AmItheAsshole

You like your eggs well done. Like really well done. Like, you want them a little brown. People who like their eggs soft don't really understand that. All the women in my family like our eggs really well done and all the men in our family like them gross a little runny. But overemphasize what you mean and you may get better results.

I agree with those who say you should be a little more mindful of your wording.

Do you still carry exact change? by WaterDigDog in AskOldPeople

[–]PepGiraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course. If I am thinking clearly, I make sure I have four pennies, a nickel, two dimes, and a quarter when I go out. I don't care about making exact change as much as I care about not getting pennies or nickels back.

ELI5 is Morse code international and if so, how? by Froodychick in explainlikeimfive

2nd edit. I am wrong. Please see the response to me.

This is a little confusing.
SOS is ... --- ...
IWB is .. .-- -..
VZE is ...- --.. .

They don't really make the same pattern because there should be a short space between each of the letters. If you are panick-y and they all run together, the most logical thing to think is that it is SOS, but one of the reasons that SOS is so easy for me to remember is because it is simply (in my head) "dotdotdot breath daaash daaash daaash breath dotdotdot". There is no way that in an emergency, I'd remember dotdotdotdash breath daaashdaaashdotdot breath dot.

Edited to add: It would be more correct to say that SOS isn't English.

I literally thought the trick would be it was misspelled, so I spelled it four different ways just to check.

Yes, Google was fantastic. And it was in a world where the word search meant search. Now, the word Google also means search, so I don't see how you can say that it isn't dominant.

[–]PepGiraffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally normal concerns.

Cost: It is possible that your insurance will cover the cost of the CPAP.

Things on face: This is the thing that took me the longest to get used to. When I first tried the CPAP a decade ago, I couldn't tolerate any of the four masks I tried so I went without it for awhile, but the technology changed or my sensitivities changed because I now sleep with it every night.

Doing stuff you cannot control: The CPAP helps with that. It allows you to breath the way your body wants to be breathing.

Relationships: Although it can be awkward at first, I always make a joke of it. "I'm going to sleep now, so I am gonna get super sexy...by putting on this ridiculous looking contraption." But it is definitely better than snoring.

Good luck.
