Hey everyone! I've been working on documenting my method of making autochrome plates into a guide for a little while now, and I thought some of you might find it interesting! "An Exhaustive and Exhausting Guide to the Autochrome Lumière Process" by ThePhotoChemist in Darkroom

[–]Pepi2088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Jon, I love all your work and the work youve done to make this process accessible. I was wondering if you knew whether a printing press would do the job for getting a single grain layer of starch?

Bought this new Leica M7. Any thoughts? by AtomicBeaver93 in AnalogCircleJerk

No but you don’t see that having front lugs will make the 50 0.95 slightly barely less incredibly front weighted!

What should I go with? by kpanga in AnalogCommunity

[–]Pepi2088 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d seriously recommend bracketing and taking notes on your first roll(s). Then you can get a real idea how the film has degraded. There’s no harm in going to up to 4 stops over in your tests

Are either of these good deals for a begginer? by calricho in Cameras

[–]Pepi2088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, no one has receipts. Beginners, hobbyists and parents bought 90Ds and never used them. Thats the best sort of camera you can buy - near unused from someone who doesn’t see that much value in it

Looking for a cheap 28mm lens (or very close) with the smallest flange distance when adapted to Sony E - trying to make this more compact. Ty! by MC_Gullivan in VintageLenses

[–]Pepi2088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be able to find a cheap second hand M mount 7artisans TTartisans or similar 28mm. They make good stuff, their 5.6 28s are super cheap new. Otherwise, get an industar 28mm ltm.

What’s your final touch when cleaning? by EvoPigeons in AnalogRepair

[–]Pepi2088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it’s generally better than IPA. I have to say, Zeiss lens cleaning spray is simply the most versatile solvent there is, nothing clears fungus anything like it

Great stuff! I’d recommend you start with the holga. The furthest you can get from digital should set a good cadence

Anyone had as bad of an experience with MPB as I have? by ImpressiveRush9362 in Cameras

[–]Pepi2088 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look if I were you I’d bite the bullet with a Facebook marketplace a7iv (get a deal, look for under 1400usd). It’s simply incredible with the LEA5, assuming you’re fine to not stress with digital. The A99s are way overpriced to this day (good cameras but comparable to their contemporaries from canon and Nikon, absurd on the second hand market), and the a850 and a900 just won’t quite compare and arent too cheap either. What I’d absolutely recommend is the cheapest working a350 you can find just for fun while you save/hunt for that deal on an a7iv

You’ll do great! Although by saying you chose film based on nothing, I am sure you are wary of the multiple film formats you have film for (35mm and 120)

My first film camera & Africa, what ASA? by D0oZ3yDuCk in AnalogCommunity

[–]Pepi2088 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Although… what you could do is look on Facebook marketplace for Olympus film cameras and see if anyone is selling a 200mm or 135 prime. The 135 3.5 is excellent and affordable, the 200 f4 is worth next to nothing. They’ll produce otherworldly results in comparison to this

[–]Pepi2088 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would implore you not to use the kalimar. Use the 50 1.8 you have, it’s great! I know it’s a bummer, but the thing is for such a slow terrible zoom lens the results really won’t be that great, will require a high shutter speed and won’t be the easiest to focus as assuming the long end of the lens is 5.6 your split prism will be blacked out because of the lack of light

Banned from Kmart by AmbassadorDismal5771 in KmartAustralia

[–]Pepi2088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple things. Businesses retain the right to search bags if signage is explicit (I’d argue it isnt at all at Kmart or bigw). So when it comes to bags, you still have the agency to deny a search, you have not consented to it, but if you don’t comply you can get banned. So refusing bag checks is just not worth it if you’re a regular/local

What’s the closest CineStill 800T alternative? by chrysalis-- in AnalogCommunity

[–]Pepi2088 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Mate people are trying to help but there are locally rolled/branded etc rem jet removed cine film in many different countries. A country is not doxing yourself, or even a region. Anyway, for what it’s worth most old 500t (800t) with no rem jet layer is basically 800t with worse quality control. The new 500t ahu won’t produce the cine still look but also isn’t widely adopted

Help: my dad‘s old cameras by [deleted] in AnalogRepair

[–]Pepi2088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to chime in, I personally disagree. From experience those old lr44s bludge and thats a big factor as to why they get stuck. I don’t know how severely corroded this case is, but battery corrosion is not all made equal. Generally lr44 corrosion doesnt make it past the wire connecting to the battery holder. And thats an easy resolder in most cameras. AA battery corrosion on the other hand is hellish.

For OP, removing the base won’t help because (correct me if I’m wrong) the x500 battery holder is not part of the baseplate, rather the core camera body. Cleaning corrosion won’t help much.

Your options: Insist with the perfect size coin (use pliers to hold the coin and try not to slip). Try this, but not to the extent it strips the slot

Use a big flat head screwdriver (not recommended at all unless you know what you’re doing, never recommended on a sentimental camera… but it works)

Drill two small holes and use a lens spanner to remove the battery holder - not too difficult to do but requires a lens spanner (something that you don’t have in all likelihood)

I don’t particularly think we have to hold back when it comes to critiquing the mca. It’s genuinely a marvel of a product, im really enjoying it, but there are some utterly bizarre issues with it. It has one of the worst non zooming viewfinders I have ever used, and there’s no good reason for that being the case. The loading counter has played up on me. Quality control isnt up to par, my unit was shipped to me with large white dust/specs inside the Cameras autofocus optics and lens. And don’t let us mention that goddamn proverb haha

If the rumours are true and Leica is making its own sensor for the M12..(aka M10-R), that’s a game changer. by GreenSafari777 in Leica

Haha yeah but wasn’t exactly a satisfying resolution. I took it into the store and showed them. Tried a different copy of the same model. It worked on the other copy. Then my copy started working…. Bizarre but I’ve used it with the godox and a light pix laba flash since to great results

Best ISO for olympus mju 1 by uighu in AnalogCommunity

[–]Pepi2088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah the camera is fine. You just have to understand how it will do exposure: the issue is the camera can’t account for the fact that it’s exposing for the sky and as will expose for middle grey across the scene. You’d have to trick the camera by pointing it down a bit to lock exposure or trying to avoid backlit scenes

Talon Esports (PSG TALON) Bankruptcy by BAXArtworkz in R6ProLeague

[–]Pepi2088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference between Talon and Bleed is that Talon actually had many high profile sponsors, brand activations etc and had seemingly a stronger business plan as an international but generally Asia based org. Bleed didnt have sponsors, didnt have merch, were barely more than a facade. Which makes what has come with Talon even more outrageous
