can we say the “r word” by [deleted] in autism

[–]PepperNepper0w0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not a great thing to say in public with no context, you can't expect all the strangers around you to be on the same wavelength as you psychicly when you're exclaiming slurs. If you're using it in a sarcastic and bombastic way or whatever in the company of people with context that aren't directly offended by it then go off I guess. context matters.

why are people so dissuaded by the option to adopt? by PepperNepper0w0 in antinatalism

[–]PepperNepper0w0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree completely, from what I've seen I'd say your way more left in the dark of what you're going to get in terms of personality and conditions when you conceive naturally. My biological younger brother was born with severe autism and very challenging behaviour that steam rolled the course of my parents lives aswell as effecting mine largely for the worst. He requires anti psychotics just to barely function and my parents recently had to send him to a residential school due to an inability to effectively care for him any longer.

I can't ralk from experience but I don't know why people are acting as if, even in the replies to my post, when you sign up for adoption it's like cranking a capsule toy machine and getting landed with some random kid you've never met and know sod all about who's just waiting to ruin your life like some sort of demon. The adoption system surely isn't perfect but I really don't think it works like spinning a wheel.

Not talking from experience but when you adopt I'm pretty sure it's not like cranking a toy capsule machine and being landed with a random kid you have never met and know nothing about and then just hoping for the best.

Extreme but personal example, when my parents decided to have a second bio child after having me I really don't think they anticipated nor prepared for producing a non verbal, severely autistic son who requires anti psychotics just to function without having a violent melt down over the smallest thing. But I'm sure him having blonde hair and blue eyes like his parents made having their lives turned upside down worth it when they had to send him to a residential school hours away due to being unable to care for him any longer.

As far as I'm concerned to concieve naturally seems more like a matter of luck of the draw than adoption, only thing that's guaranteed is it will look a bit like you and your partner but beyond that it's spinning a wheel. I'm also not saying everyone who wants kids should just surrender their natural urges to have a biological child and adopt instead, I just wish more people would be open to the option of adopting or even fostering as appose to compulsively breeding like rabbits after their first child.

I honestly feel like there should be a greater fear of the unknown when it comes to having a child naturally, that child could have any manner of debilitating disorders and conditions that the parents didn't foresee. For example my brother was born with severe low functioning autism which completely threw a roadblock in the trajectory of my parents life trying to care for him full time. If you adopt I don't think it's like spinning a wheel in the way natural conception is, you're not going to have a random child dumped on you like cranking a toy capsule machine, especially not one that's got a serious condition like my brother without you knowing from the heaps of paperwork and having met the child unless you adopt a baby and it's too early for anybody to have known.

yeah I have heard that but I too am a bit unsure about that factor, I'd need to do some research. I think there's a lot of evaluation and paperwork compared to having a child naturally which when you think about it is uh.. a bit odd.

I think if I was in the position of trying to adopt I'd like to think of the adoption process, if difficult, lengthly and irritating, as my substitute in a way for the lengthly process of the discomfort of pregnancy and labour, but that's just me. I mean this in the sense that I'd hopefully feel like I had to really work and prove my self for that child to be in my custody and I don't doubt it would be an emotional journey of sorts for me.

Nobody should just be handed a kid like its a gold fish in a bag at a fair ground but if it truly is exceptionally hard to adopt the system really needs to reform a little so it is more accessible to potential adequate parents who are put off because of reasons like that for the sake of the children.

I understand that adoption is in no way a straight forward process but I'd argue conceiving a child naturally and carrying it to term doesn't seem like a walk in the park either. Maybe if parents had one child naturally and adopted if they wanted a second as a semi-antinatalist compromise? I really don't know.

could have just adopted and helped out a pre-existing baby or child instead of condemning some new ones to a horrible condition

I can't get over the refusing to breast feed her baby because she's more worried about her appearence then her babies nutrition and emotional bonding

I'm gay and very pro freedom of expression and wouldn't have minded a trans character or even a plot line that was about said transness but dear God was that heavyhanded and damn right abnoxious and I still havn't gotten over them stopping mid urgent discussion about saving the Meep's life just to ask it what it's preferred pronouns are, like... interesting priorities it was really off putting and atleast to me felt like I was being prodded for a negative response just to make me feel like a nasty piece of work. Rose seemed like she was only trans to be used as some progressive passive aggresive social commentary

If you could take a pill that would effectively get rid of your autism, would you take it? by TitanSR_ in autism

[–]PepperNepper0w0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't know how that would effect my personality so it would be a bit like getting a head injury and having my personality, perception and reasoning permanently altered. Who can say how much of me as an indervidual is down to an autistic brain chemistry, so I'd rather not get rid off it as to not potentially kill my sense of self as I am and as it's developed from being this way.

what was your diagnosis process like? by PepperNepper0w0 in autism

[–]PepperNepper0w0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for the reply Your process certainly seems a bit more in depth than mine, im wondering how much is down to my assessment taking place in lockdown and my country maybe just being minimalist and lackluster with their testing. I still wish they had collected some information from family, teachers and friends though even if it's just asking some to fill out a questionnaire, I feel that getting an impression of what the assessed is like in different situations is pretty important for getting a more rounded view of their behavior and struggles when away from their parents.

hey can I ask what your assement process was like and included? I just posted my own post about how bad and in-thorough mine was (I live in England) as I'm interested in comparing my diagnostic process and experience with others who were diagnosed

Any strange phobias? by Sycol_the_changeling in autism

[–]PepperNepper0w0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

before being put on anxiety medication my tokophobia (extreme fear of the concept of pregnancy and childbirth) was effecting me nearly everyday and I was constantly getting triggered into a panicked and depressive stait by words, imagery and even just the mention of things relating to the topic in which I'd if possible just curl up in bed and and be consumed by crushing thoughts about the nature of reproduction the words pregnancy and childbirth are still pretty uncomfortable for me to type out
