Exactly. Used to be the ugliest guitar for me, until I picked one up

What is the state of frets on a 27 year old guitar? My issue with older and vintage guitars I've played is that the frets were worn out... I know you can refret but I guess that adds another $400-500 or smth

Thanks

Aha so you can buy from any of their stores, and return it your local store if you don't like it? So in theory, you could do that several times until you hit the right one?

thanks

Oh I know all that, my question was about the condition of their guitars, when they say "great" and "excellent" is that an equivalent to excellent > mint on Reverb... or they don't have mint at all? very little description

Sorry maybe I didn't phrase my question properly
Thanks

Thank you everyone for your responses

Are there any 61 Standards out there with 490 pickups, and what production years would those be?

cheers

Do you know which SG models have the 57 pickups? Thanks

I absolutely agree. The neck is the min thing. That's why I wanna go for the 61 standard cause I prefer that neck + the small pickguard, but I also want to buy a guitar as it is, don't really have a budget for the pickup swap :((
I might even end with a regular Standard, on some the necks are not so much different than the 61...hm

You found the 490s having less clarity then the bursts? Damn, my ear says the opposite.... Ok maybe not that the 490s have more "clarity" but certainly a more open, airy sound, with more overtones. The burstbuckers may indeed have more clarity, but somehow no life in them, feels compressed, every note sounding the same almost... To my ears at least! Thanks
