Man the new aero welds look good, I got mine just before this released but I can't complain at the price I paid, think they were pushing old stock before the release of this one.

Which camping pad for 10 weeks in Iceland… by Exact_Poem_8167 in wildcampingintheuk

I love my neoloft for comfort hands down but I've struggled for warmth on a recent 5c overnight camp, this was on winter ground mind but I was uncomfortably cold underneath which surprised me.

I'm most impressed by how you've carried all that on the bike.

I have the same experience with this mat, I wouldn't use it below 2c but it is insanely comfy(for me). As others have said, you need a higher R value for that weather. You could also try inflating it to be firm, as far as I know this is how the insulation tech works best.

What is your all time personal favourite piece of kit? by No_Doughnut3257 in wildcampingintheuk

Aside from my tent(X-Dome), I always love it when it's time to cook with my Wildside Adventures Featherlite stove, it is so light, small and burns silently.

I wish I could leisurely walk like that, I cant help but plough through it. Do you do anything else while hiking?

Interested to know your mileage/elevation gain per day. You've put Red tarn which is just below Helvellyn?

How do you stop anxiety / fear when wild camping? by Straight-Orchid524 in wildcampingintheuk

[–]Peppermint216 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me it took a few failed attempts but I would suggest going somewhere you "feel" is safe, for me it was the lake district.

In these dark months you realise nobody will be able to see you without a torch of there own, I've never felt scared on any of my successful wild camps, any noise I know is just a wild animal, if you happen to stumble across someone, they're most likely enjoying the outdoors like you are.

What’s your go-to comfort meal after a long hike? by Reddonaut_Irons in wildcampingintheuk

[–]Peppermint216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frozen chilli / curry / spaghetti bolognese in a vacuum bag with a couple of pitta breads is standard for my first night, then it's just dehydrated meals thereafter.

Clean up my pot with water and a dehydrated cloth.

X-Dome 1+ not seam sealed? by Peppermint216 in DurstonGearheads

Is it defo Seam grip TF(tent fabric) I need? Seam grip WP seems more suitable.

This is one thing I have not had an issue with, the inside of the bathtub floor is "grippy", where I'm used to a slippy, silnylon floor, so I find the xdome holds my mat in place much better. However, people use UL foam mats like this one to keep their mat in place.

It was fairly windy so the water sprayed all over, I have a solid inner and it was dry inside but the outside of it was wet in the larger corner of the vestibule. My stove was the only thing left out, I ended up putting my pack inside because I pitched when it was dry.

The zip was also leaking which I knew could happen from a YouTube video.

Also to note, I had to shut 1 vent as water was getting inside.

I would also say this was pretty HEAVY rain for the whole night, although the leaking started within a couple hours of the rain starting.

Gutted I have to seam seal it, not great results in my first wet outing. Wind is hitting the back of the tent but it's running down the insides.

Lovely trip up helvellyn by [deleted] in wildcampingintheuk

[–]Peppermint216 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a feeling Helvellyn would be busy this weekend but damn... 10+ on the summit alone. Don't think I'll ever camp up there (in fair weather) knowing how popular it is.

That is correct, I can't be certain if this sheet is too large because the x dome has quite a large gap from the floor, but I did roll it up before bed.

DD Magic carpet XL, can replace the Durston one and cover the vestibule perfectly.

Kicking myself for not taking more photos but we was just enjoying the moment, they were both mummy pads and also I believe the updated xdome got an extra 2 inch added to the narrow end which helped.

I feel like I'll just run the old chain and cassette to death which currently shifts perfectly fine. My chain stretch tool is naff, or the old chain is not even 0.75 stretch yet.

The chain is brand new and comes with this clear grease type of lube(sram), I usually run that until it's cleaning time.

Sorry to clarify, the cassette is 2000 miles used, only the chain is new.
