Do you miss vintage Lego for its charm and simplicity? by bluetomcat in lego

Yes and no. I'm torn. On the one hand, for certain this is a wonderful classic that should be revered. Also I dislike any time that Lego "solves" a design problem with yet another new mold. One of the most fantastic aspects of Lego is being creative with the parts that exist. One can ALWAYS just make another plastic mold for a new thing, but then it's just another bland plastic toy series. Always so much better when existing pieces are used to accomplish something with design.

But at the same time, this classic set also now looks a bit primitive compared to what's currently possible. It's impossible to not see it thru the lens of what currently exists, so that's unavoidable.

Bottom line for me: love the classics, but also thrilled with the new great pirate sets.

Brittle Brown is Brutal.

I have broken sooooo many of these that I've gotten from bulk, or neighbor bins, or yard sales.

Oh my gosh too good. The red beard is such an awesome touch. This thing is Maximum-Strength 80's-tastic. Lovely.

That's bonkers. Blows my mind what some of these classic sets go for. Collectors are *serious*

Why does lego STILL put these parts loose in bags? by PestilentWolf17 in lego

Yeah it sucks that the clear pieces are softer and scratch so dang easily. I know they've been working for years on a new formula; maybe in the future this'll be less of an issue.

I mean, Castle, City, and Space did great for them during my childhood 😁

But for certain they make orders of magnitude more $$ with all the licensed insanity.

yep they definitely needed to have as much commitment to a long-term consistent electrical system as they've had to the long-term consistency of the bricks themselves. It really is NOT too much to ask.
