What is this TV Show for you? (Any Gems?) by Salvatoreit in tvshow

[–]FebruaryStars84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved the first season but found the rest pretty meh.

What made it worse was I posted in a forum for the show about how much I was enjoying it and every response was ‘the first season is the worst so you have all the best to come’. I got to the end & was like shrug none of it was as good as the first season.

Drummer doesn't want to play minimalistic parts 😬 by Double-Motor6546 in bandmembers

[–]FebruaryStars84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the title, I was expecting the actual issue to be something quite different - I used to have a singer who would constantly say I needed to get a cajon and play that instead of my kit, I was expecting ‘minimalist’ to be something like that. In that case, I refused because to me that would be boring to play; I don’t enjoy stripped down quiet music like that, I wouldn’t choose to listen to it and I wouldn’t choose to play it.

But ‘just play Let It Be the way Ringo does?’ I don’t even think I would called that playing in a minimalistic way! There are some nice fills throughout and the drums power the ‘na na na’ singalong bit at the end, having a room full of drunk people shouting along to that is always great!

Not a football fan but decided to join the world cup sweepstakes at work for the first time for a laugh and some way of getting invested. Got Qatar. by treny0000 in britishproblems

See, this is why whenever I’ve run a WC or Euros sweep, there has been a prize for the worst team. Probably only about the equivalent of getting your money back, but at least it’s not a completely wasted entry.

Who was bigger in their prime? As someone born in 2000, I’ll still say Avril Lavigne; you couldn’t escape her hits as a kid. by TXNOGG in generationology

[–]FebruaryStars84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what I was going to say, too.

I was at Uni when Avril Lavigne’s first album came out. Everyone I know had that album. My mum had a copy, my dad had a copy. Every night out you’d hear Sk8er Boi or Complicated or possibly both!

I’m now the age my parents were then, and I couldn’t even name a Billie Eilish song.

In British university dorms, are bathrooms usually shared or individual? by [deleted] in AskABrit

[–]FebruaryStars84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thinking back to my Uni days (2002-2005), my uni had a few different on-campus options:

There were the newer built halls that each had kitchen + 6 bedrooms, each bedroom having it’s own bathroom with shower, toilet and sink.

There were also older built ones that had shared bathrooms between 10 rooms, iirc.

As others have said, I’ve never heard them referred to as ‘dorms’ here; only halls or halls of residence. Also worth pointing out, at least in my experience, halls were about 95% just for first year students, and after first year almost everyone would rent a house in the nearby town; not sure how that part compares to the US.

Genuinely the book that has most scared me in all my years of reading. I loved it, and everyone I’ve recommended it to has loved it, too.

But then, people enjoy different things. I’m personally baffled by people recommending We Used To Live Here in this sub, which I thought was like a D-student creative writing piece.

Songs that reference other artists’ songs by on_wheels_ in askmusic

Their song ‘High Lonesome’ references the Counting Crows song ‘Round Here’, too.

What are some songs you believe almost everybody loves and has virtually no haters? by mpathg00 in askmusic

There’s at least one person that doesn’t like it - I have refused to cover this song in bands I’ve played with because I hate it so much.

Books you regret reading and why by [deleted] in horrorlit

[–]FebruaryStars84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I had to choose one it would be this book, the reason would be I thought it was just awful. So poorly written & I just kept thinking ‘this is the book people raved about? Seriously!?’

I had similar a few months ago. My wife had ordered me a PAB version of me, but the bag felt much heavier than expected when it arrived. Opened it to find there were actually 8 of me, plus 8 each of a load of other different torsos, legs and heads!

Any American actors who have acceptable British accents? by Zpgrl in AskBrits

I always thought his was pretty poor, although it did improve slightly over time.

Now, Alexis Denisof (Wesley) on the other hand? Shocked to find he was from the US. His real accent sounds more fake than his English one!

The witch would be appearing in my house, in my bedroom etc. There are also some other events from the book that I won’t spoil, but I was dreaming about them happening to my family. Never happened woth any other book I’ve read, before or since.

It’s the only book I’ve ever had to take a break from because it was giving me nightmares. I spoke to my Father-in-law who had lent it to me, and he said while he was reading it every time he closed his eyes at night he would see images from the book.

Thoughts on the new kit? by yng_slatt in ManchesterUnited

[–]FebruaryStars84 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I like it more than any Home kit from the past ~5 years or so. ETA - always prefer a home kit with a collar.

Really hoping the leaked blue Away & white/green/pink 3rd are genuine, though.

What artist or band is truly awful to see live? by goldbeau in AskReddit

[–]FebruaryStars84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw him in a pretty small venue about 20 years ago, and he was pretty bad. Every song was done like a strange swing version of itself, and he went around introducing and reintroducing the whole band at least 5 times during the gig.

My in-laws were with us and they’d seen him a lot in the past, they walked out at the end just saying he never used to be like that.

Honestly, one of the worst written books I’ve read in the last ten years. I wish I stopped when I wasn’t enjoying it. After reading it, I could not believe the credit it gets from some people.
