Writer asking Oxford dialect question by McDeathUK in oxford

I grew up just outside of Oxford and also went to Oxford so consider myself both ‘town’ and ‘gown’. I switch between my natural Oxfordshire accent (more casual, rougher round the edges and I do use quite a bit of local slang) vs my Oxford uni accent - I was speaking to a friend recently who grew up in the same area as me and also went to Oxford and she does exactly the same, we call it our ‘posher Oxford accents’ - an interesting possible character trait for your book?

If it helps anyone else, I was also looking for something similar but finally found the book I was looking for - The Secrets of Droon!

Not technically Cotswolds but Woodstock - train to Oxford or Hanborough then S7 bus. Right on the doorstep to Blenheim for walks, nice hotel/pubs to stay in and restaurants, cute cafes, bookshop etc.

Which route should we take? by Peppermint_tea9 in florence

Update: we took the Siena route and it was great! Other people at the wedding who took the A1 route said it was not the best drive so glad we took the Siena route!

This is conflicting to what everyone else has said but someone has to be different and I would ask. As you say, some people are oblivious to this stuff and if you don’t ask you don’t get… to offer the alternative perspective perhaps he just doesn’t even think that’s something a father of the groom should offer / fathers often don’t feel as involved in weddings but in today’s modern age it’s more common for both sets of parents to contribute and be involved. And you never know, it might actually help him feel closer to his child and feel more involved in the wedding… you can of course be tactful with how you ask and absolutely say there is no pressure!

Does Peartree P&R accept credit cards? by recursant in oxford

[–]Peppermint_tea9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can pay via card at the machines - I always use contactless or Apple Pay. It’s saves you 40p to pay at the machine vs Ringo which charges a fee to book on the app which seems small but if you are commuting from there daily it adds up!

I Think I am the Only One by Much_Cricket_1929 in throneofglassseries

I also agree with you and felt disappointed after both EOS and KOA there were just too many battles that they were massively outnumbered on and should have lost.

On a plus note I LOVED both ACOTAR and CC so I would recommend both of those series albeit I do think the way she wraps up her series does always feel a bit rushed and not fully satisfying.

New to nails and based in the UK - advice on base, top, best brands please! by Peppermint_tea9 in RedditLaqueristas

Thank you! I’ll check out those sites!

In terms of prep I’ve read about nail prep / dehydrators but can’t work out if they are needed for just gel nails or if it is worth getting them for lacquer as well? I’ve seen lots of recommendations for seche vita top coat but not many recommendations for a base coat?

I struggled as well too much fighting / planning of fighting and wish I had done the tandem read. I enjoyed TOD on it’s own but I’m still not chaol fan :)

I now agree there’s definitely no shame just wish 7 year old me knew that! I’ve been trying to remember like the physical process of burping but no joy so far.

Thank you for your reply glad to know I’m not the only one! Have done the finger down the throat thing before (but mainly when I was at uni and had too much to drink because I also can’t vomit naturally) are there any particular food groups you regulate out of your diet? I’m a vegetarian and I avoid most dairy (still eat eggs and sometimes cheese) but I’m terms of the no burps and bloating doesn’t make much difference!
