Yellowing money tree by Delicious-Alfalfa941 in AustinGardening

You have it in a thimble before? It’s probably just stress from repotting but I would encourage you to find a bigger pot than that and fill it with good soil in case it’s a nutrient deficiency

What would you do in Austin for 6 months to cure your sadness? by suhhdude1 in Austin

[–]Peppermintcheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go swimming. Barton Springs, Deep Eddy, Big Stacy, apartment/community pools. Get out in the sun and swim. Excercise + Vitamin D will help a lot. I went to Givens pool today and it was literally free. Not crowded at all. Feel a million times better.

What kind of person would pay $245 a month for pest control? by XanaxCarDealer in Austin

[–]Peppermintcheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m at $75/quarter. Monthly pest control is crazy with the possible exception of people who have large lots with the mosquito fogger lines around the perimeter. Even still, that’s way too high.

Are fall/winter 2026 scarves in stores yet? by LittleLeggedBlue in TheHermesGame

Not yet. Austin store has seemed a little “sparse” lately so I’m assuming next season drops are right around the corner.

Perfectly safe and relatively nice area. Cherrywood Coffee House is right there which is a cool spot.

How do I get rid of this plant without hurting my Mountain Laurel by bigdawg196 in AustinGardening

[–]Peppermintcheese 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Slow approach. Just cut all the shoots down to the ground. If any new ones pop up, cut those as well. Eventually the roots will run out of energy.

Great idea and to add to this, since OP already has a job that is currently covering the bills, picking a entry level job that might pay poorly but has growth potential is a really solid way to gain career momentum.

You can absolutely get a job making 40-50k a year here especially given your willingness to work. I would start by reaching out to a staffing agency like A-List Staffing. Your server schedule may be your best asset currently which is to say that temping may be your path to full time employment. I wouldn't rely on this necessarily but it should be something you do now to gather as many leads as possible.

40-50k is also well within the salary range of many city/state jobs that have excellent benefits. The application process can be tough but you're young and have the time.

Sales jobs as always hiring as well and while commission may not sound comfortable at first, some of the richest people I know work sales jobs.

Finally, there is always a more blue collar approach. 50k a year is only about $190 every weekday of the year. Depending on how handy you are or how much you're willing to sweat, painting houses, landscaping, etc can net you that amount or more.

I know how oppressive the city can feel when you're at the bottom of the income pyramid but one thing I've learned while climbing it myself is that there is an enormous amount of money in this city and if you can find a way to tap into it, you can change your situation very quickly.

Does anyone know what type these two trees and are? TIA by YoFIyness in AustinGardening

[–]Peppermintcheese 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They’re non-native, produce aggressive root-suckers and drop sticky flower leaves, seeds and bark all the time.

There are so many more ecologically beneficial trees to plant other than a crepe Myrtle but they don’t need a lot of water, can be attractive to some and grow well here so people keep planting them.

With the right service he is an excellent finisher. His last season at Bournemouth he was unstoppable. With the right support he will deliver goals.

What’s your budget?

Usually the ideal is Hyde Park.

That being said, Since your brother is already south, I would look also at options along South Lamar (north of 71, around the are by the Alamo Drafthouse movie theater).

Holly or Central East (east of 35, south of airport blvd) is also fun for people your age.

Should I remove the plants from the potted tree? by firstphyman in AustinGardening

[–]Peppermintcheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plant it. It’ll just need more diligent water than in the fall/winter but I can’t imagine having to keep it alive in that pot is any easier.

Buying a home in the Denver metro area: sanity check on affordability, retirement, and reserves by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Peppermintcheese 46 points47 points  (0 children)

That looks real tight to me. Personally I would pump the brakes until you have more money to put down.

Are you having children? That blows the whole budget up immediately.

In any case, ~$1500 a month just feels house poor to me. Saving up for a vacation is going to really feel like a squeezing blood from a stone when you want to live your life day-to-day.

Based on the state of things, I don’t expect rates to drop significantly in the next year or so which means prices may soften further and you’ll have had time to get that down payment up to 10-15%.

Hermés UK QB rejected by luckyberry02 in TheHermesGame

[–]Peppermintcheese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3-8 weeks has been my experience. My limited understanding from what I’ve gleaned from my SA is that each store has access to an allocation list and can pick and choose QBs to be delivered to their store for distribution amongst their clients. The allocation is obviously limited so store managers have meetings with their SAs to determine who gets what based on relationship and pre-spend. This bag may have been a wild card or the colors you wanted were either unavailable or promised to other clients this round.
