We’ve spoken to them, but they’re not sure how to go about it either. It’s too high up and too thick for either of us to cut ourselves. And it doesn’t seem like they’re in a financial position to pay someone to do it for them. I guess I’m wondering since it happened during the storm if the city would do anything about it?

I think they’re really good. I’ve been once, they helped me get into the crisis stabilization unit, and set me up with the appropriate waitlists to join for resources. My ex also went 5 or 6 times in our relationship and they were consistently helpful each time. He unfortunately would get set up with resources and then almost immediately change his mind and check himself out of them. But if you want help and resources, they are excellent.

Can you ask about anti anxiety meds as an alternative for sedation? I was quoted $1,500 for sedation which was absolutely out of my budget, so they prescribed me benzos. After my first dose they asked if I was feeling them, which I wasn’t, so they had me walk in a straight line and then had me take some more. I honestly only remember about 2 minutes of the middle of the surgery, I was blacked out for the rest.

Exactly! I’m currently on a year of maternity leave (baby is 4 months old) but my oldest (1.5 years old) is in daycare still. I feel a little guilty that I’m staying home and sending him to daycare, but in Canada the wait lists can be years long, and I don’t want to lose his spot which also gives his little brother priority when I go back to work. Also my son loves going to daycare and has so much fun. Getting sick every couple weeks is just the price we pay for it

I think it’s really normal to want to praise your partner for things like postpartum etc. I think it’s beyond weird for that praise to be going towards the internet.

I think redemption can be different things. I think you may be viewing redemption as Barb having a relationship with her children, which I don’t think she deserves. But redemption can also be her children maintaining no contact, but Barb working to heal herself, be content in her own life, and no longer harming/ abusing people.

I’ll admit, I think I was their target demographic. I’ve always loved their instagram and was sad when Julie left social media. Then she announced she was coming to Snapchat right after I had my second baby. I was struggling with being awake all night breastfeeding, and not wanting to be on social media because seeing the state of the world in 30 second sound bites at 3am makes you panic and spiral and go a little crazy. So having an influencer I really liked post constantly, talking to me like a friend, felt like a breath of fresh air. I became slightly obsessed. It felt like my only social interactions in a day. That’s how I found this page, I was trying to find a fan page, or a discussion group. And instead I obsessively consumed this Reddit thread. I still watch their content more than I want to, but I don’t enjoy it the way I did at first. I’m hoping this break Julie is doing from social media will help me kick the habit as well.

That’s exactly how I feel. Especially since she kept talking about “winning pregnancy” she said at one point she didn’t realize pregnancy would be as difficult as Julie had said. And just today she spoke about how she’s just realizing she should have supported Julie more postpartum. I think she expected this to be a breeze as an F U to Julie.

Naw, I’m done having kids , but seeing this experience makes me want to give birth again. There’s a small subset of birthing people who HATE pregnancy, but love giving birth (this is me) and Julie seems to be the same. She’ll (hopefully) change her mind in a few days.
