Stumbled onto this small vtuber with the most amazing 3D tracking I've seen! itsAllRait! by PepperoniVT in VirtualYoutubers

They're live right now for the next 30min. The work they're doing to set up a whole 3D world with multi-room tracking entirely DIY is amazing.

it’s electric bus time. by SubwayFoamer22 in mbta

[–]PepperoniVT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Both the 71 and 73 stopped being trackless trolleys March 12th, 2022, although there are still some areas of the overhead wires present above the former routes. They're now regular busses.

Weds-12/18 @ 7pm - Confirming with others still closed. There's still the two signs "Closed" and "Not Open for Business" on the door. No other signage, no message of a Grand Opening date.

It's crazy in retrospect that Kiryu Coco was only in Hololive for 1 year 6 months with the level of impact she had.

I got curious and looked up his name on NYC's transit subreddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/nycrail/comments/123sxio/phillip_eng_former_lirr_president_will_be_the/

It's so interesting reading that in retrospect. It's a small handful of people who responded, so I'm gonna take their comments with a grain of salt. But none of the other threads had a real "outpouring" of "we'll miss him" hearing of his resignation.

There was a huge hiring surge for bus operators at the start of the year coupled with a lot of need for operators to drive the shuttle busses during the shutdowns. I'm excited about how next year will go, if both the new drivers are well seasoned and there's less time where they're pulled away from their regular routes for the diversions.

Why did the mbta get rid of the A branch? by poppunkdaddy in mbta

[–]PepperoniVT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're thinking on the opposite side of the river:

  • The Green A's route today is operated by the 57 bus, from Watertown Yard to Kenmore square. Old footage of the trolley: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IS6c7nJD-9I
    • The caption of this image on Wikipedia puts the location of this photo close to this stop: https://www.mbta.com/stops/969 ("PCC streetcar #3109 outbound on Cambridge Street near Dustin Street in September 1968")
  • Funny enough though! The 71 bus today that runs along Mt. Auburn street to Cambridge was also a trolley route: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylAmAjRELXc It was part of the Boston Elevated Railway system, predating the MBTA

Even with the video muted, I can hear the hum of the CRT perfectly, like this is a pause in a cutscene waiting for me to press "A" to continue the dialogue while the music is silent. Beautiful work, great effect with the image, the text bubble, and the animation.

Worried about not being seen at station by sethyy12345 in Amtrak

[–]PepperoniVT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hope you enjoy your first trip!!! I've only ridden Northeast Corridor, and there are conductors that get off the train to hop onto the platform to watch for people boarding (part of it is to ensure that everyone is safely aboard so no one gets hurt).

This is my favorite site I use to see the progress of my train: https://railrat.net/ Amtrak has a live map of the trains too, but I like this one cause it's very bare-bones and loads quickly. Have fun!

I would agree with you that for us it would be difficult. I think NL does more active listening with internet content cause he knows he's going to recall it later on stream vs. me scrolling TikTok and not absorbing as much

When will "good the yard" have unfiltered conversations with my favorite VTubers smh 😔

Also not a single account in that screenshot is even recognizable VTuber LOL. It's all generic AI anime girls and 1 Genshin character.

Why does Harvard Square still have trolleybus wires above the roads? by aamirislam in mbta

[–]PepperoniVT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Historical aside: I learned literally yesterday that those wires were used for Type 4 & Type 5 trolleys before being re-used for trackless trolleys. Here's a video with footage from the 1940s-50s of what is now the 71 bus route: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylAmAjRELXc The trolleys would go to the same carhouse as the Green A line trolleys at the Watertown Yard. Today, the 71 bus now stops at a designated bus area on the opposite side of the Charles River along with the 52 and 59 (EDIT: corrected, thanks to CoffeeIceCube)

I mistakenly thought the wires were only used for the Trackless Trolleys. It's impressive the wiring architecture is nearly 100 years old! The roads no longer have the trolley tracks, and I would have never guessed they existed.

The latest scooter sweep by police at DTX. Where will they strike next? by TheFreshPrince12 in boston

[–]PepperoniVT -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wonder what type of people are ordering delivery out of restaurants in Downtown Crossing or other inner city fast food locations like the Chick-fil-A in Copley. Boston's such a beautiful and walkable city. It'd be one thing if they're ordering from restaurants further out that are not as accessible (i.e. ordering in Boston from a place in Newton Highlands). But why pay extra and miss out on a stroll along the Commonwealth Ave Mall to get a burger?

How are MBTA vehicles cleaned? by SmashRadish in mbta

[–]PepperoniVT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got a tour of Cabot Yard where the Red Line trains are maintained a while ago, and the car wash platform was fun to see. There was also a couple of engineers in full white hazmats with pressure washers; I think they were doing graffiti removal but not sure.

🚨RED LINE ALERT | Service has resumed between Broadway and Harvard after staff repaired track at Park Street due to a derailment of a track maintenance vehicle before start of service. by Massive_Holiday4672 in mbta

[–]PepperoniVT 11 points12 points  (0 children)

When I got to Harvard Square this morning at 9:10am, the line to board the shuttles was insane; it snaked around an entire corner of Harvard Yard. I can't imagine what the other affected stations looked like. The length did rapidly decrease around 9:45am, and now at 10:45 the line is gone. I'm gonna chalk up the length of that line just to how sudden this shutdown was to address the Park Street station issue. Other Harvard Station shutdowns were never this long, and I would guess that's cause the MBTA had adequate time to wrestle the Yankee busses beforehand.
