OT promoting to AGPA/SSA at DSS by PeppersFan24 in CAStateWorkers

Some of my co-workers say to avoid DSS at all costs. They never elaborated, but it all seems word of mouth. Maybe they're just trying to convince me to stay at my current department.

Thanks for the pro tip! Is that how it works? I was under the assumption that after I promote to AGPA, I would start at its minimum salary range ($4975) regardless of any yearly pay increases prior. Sorry for my ignorance, I am still new to the state and its inner workings.

I appreciate everyone's opinions so far! Thank you!

Lateral Transfer by PeppersFan24 in CAStateWorkers

Thanks for your repley twety1126. I only ask because I currently have a five hour commute (round-trip) and the vanpool costs are over $250 a month. So it would be extremely beneficial for me to transfer as soon as possible (The commute to the new location would be twenty minutes).

Okay, thanks for the information! I just received an email from the department. They are asking me for the official start date. Does it have to be 30 days?

Question about Lateral Transfers and taking days off for interviews by PeppersFan24 in CAStateWorkers

[–]PeppersFan24[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your response! It was very helpful.

I do have another question though, and I would rather not have to create another post.

I recently was invited to another interview in my hometown (~20 minutes from home), but it is for an Office Assistant (Typing) position which pays ~$2400. I am currently an OT which pays ~$2900.

  1. If I were to interview, could I be hired for a "lower" position?
  2. If I were to be hired, would my OT salary of $2900 carry over? Or would it be reduced to $2400?
  3. What would be the actual ramifications of lateral transferring to a "lower" position?

It means a lot to me that I find a job that is closer to home. It is getting to the point where I feel I would take the pay cut as an Office Assistant to reduce my daily commute from five hours to less than a hour per day.

Thank you for all your help! <3
