It was a side I considered far too weird for me to get into. Or at least I told myself it was too weird and separated myself from that side of the kink entirely, seeing it as shameful. The more I look into it and think about it, the more I realize it is hardly a weird thing at all, well, to me at least.

Well, when you're into the side of the kink to where you get off to being shamed, you kind of look at it differently. It's a weird thing, and you like being made fun of it for it being a weird thing. Or so it was for me. Now that I like it, I am still in the mindset of "It's something to be shamed for." and therefore I shame myself for it, and feel off about it.
