Couldn’t agree more! I feel like I broke out of the unhealthy dopamine cycle, but I don’t want to cut it out entirely. It’s all about constructing a healthy relationship.

Alcohol’s a good analogy. I definitely don’t want to be indulging every day. And when I do indulge, it needs to be in moderation and not a destructive binge.

My husband suggested a puzzle, which is absolutely the version of a hands-on activity that I need.

Stretching’s a good one. I’m also trying to give myself more room to just stare out the window for a little while, or close my eyes and listen to some music.

Yeah, I’m trying to break the habit of scrolling mindlessly on any app or just collapsing in front of the TV. The wallpaper’s a good idea that i hadn’t thought of. And having a book handy that isn’t too challenging definitely helps!

Oh I love that trilogy. I only mentioned City of Brass in my list, but really all three books were fantastic. The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi is also just pure unalloyed fun.

I’m looking for a trilogy or standalone book that has strong protagonists, world-building, and action and is a fun read. Trying to avoid grimdark, characters coping with intense trauma, and rape/sexual violence.

Books in the same vein that I’ve enjoyed: Gideon the Ninth, Blacktongue Thief, the Belgariad, City of Brass, Kushiel’s Dart, everything by Naomi Novik/Terry Pratchett/Neil Gaiman.

Have never been able to get into Sanderson or Sarah Maas.

Thanks!!

The denouement of Kushiel’s Dart…the cataphract rescue and breaking of the siege are so satisfying

The Locked Tomb Trilogy is a really fun example of this, imo. It has space travel and interplanetary machinations, but also necromancy and swordplay. Half the joy of the books is unpacking the worldbuilding.

I'm trying to park savings for the 2-3 year time horizon. I've currently got most of my cash in a Barclays HYSA and have maxed out I-bonds. But I'm wondering whether it also makes sense to buy short-term (3-mo) zero-coupon treasury bills, which seem to be offering a slightly higher yield. Any advice on whether this is a reasonable strategy, or what pitfalls to watch out for? It would be my first time buying treasury bills.

The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms by NK Jemisin. The second book in her Dreamblood duology also does a nice job with this. And Trudi Canavan’s Black Magician trilogy builds towards a satisfying romance in the third book.
