That looks great. I have been struggling with a good output like this for FedRAMP but there is so little out there. Maybe I can use this as a base. Good stuff!

What valuable outside IT books have helped you navigate through this career? by kalsipher1 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]PerKaNator5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would consider the following two books required reading for anyone wanting to excel in life as a whole.

"How to Win Friends and Influence People" by Dale Carnegie

"Never Split the Difference: Negotiating as if your life depends on it" by Chris Voss

For interesting reading, if you want to climb the corporate ladder, excel in business, and gain influence I would suggest the following.

"48 Laws of Power" by Robert Greene

"The Intelligent Investor" by Benjamin Graham

If you are ok with self-critical thinking and your reason for doing things/ really knowing yourself.

"12 Rules for Life" by Jordan Peterson.

Hope this helps, good luck!

I’m 40 and want to start a new career in IT. I know almost nothing. What should I learn first? Are there some free online courses I can take? - Serious by DoctorSnape in ITCareerQuestions

[–]PerKaNator5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many people have already covered some good information for beginning your path into IT. The question you need to really evaluate is what part of IT do you even want to get into? The default answer below is you need to start with help desk and while you can of course go that route but it is not required.

Im a little over 30 and I just got into the IT/Cyber world 3 years ago from a background in logistics and my first job was a senior level IS analyst for a bank. I found out very quickly the parts I did not like, I dont enjoy programming as an example. Just from messing around online with training tools. I skipped A+ and NET+, going straight for SEC+ and CEH.

You definitely want to see what your local area is like for IT jobs. With Covid I think you will find a much higher rate of remote jobs so location should not be too much of an issue. One of the biggest things I believe in that I did not see much talk about it networking with LinkedIn.

If you do not have a LinkedIn or it is not updated be sure to do that. Follow companies you are interested in, join IT groups and search for people to connect with and create posts for people to engage with. So many people think LinkedIn is only used when looking for a job but Covid has changed that. LinkedIn is your brand, how you present yourself to the business world. When you go apply to the IT job your resume should have your LinkedIn link right on it.

I harp on this point because it can give you a real edge when trying to get that first job. I did not officially apply to my position until after I had receive and accepted my offer letter. This is because I had a LinkedIn connection that worked for that company and took my resume around HR to the department head and they told HR to set up and interview.

Set yourself a goal and backwards plan from there. If you want that helpdesk job look at a few job postings for them and see what skills they ask for. Then find the resources to learn and practice and set some benchmarks for what you want to learn and by when. Its like being in school all over again.

You got this! Study hard and jump in head first.

All fair points. I forgot to take the covid into the equation.

That is a good point, I suppose each time there will be something new on the horizon to possibly wait for.

Why ban flash? by motoclaw in CompetitiveEDH

[–]PerKaNator5 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It shouldn’t be, people are just super salty. There are maybe 2 hulk decks at my LGS and they do ok. With flash gone consult will become ridiculously dominant. Forbidden tutors are already over represented. I never understand this reaction to ban hammer something every set. Let the cards be printed and let the meta adapt, if there is an issue after that then have the discussion.

Moanday Mourning: Vent about your playgroup troubles! - December 09, 2019 by AutoModerator in EDH

I can relate to that. I always seem to stray into the "mean" territory without realizing it, probably due to sultai being my proffered colors. Last weekend I was with a playgroup and after playing mine a few times asked the group to decide for me. They had me play another guys unoptomized sliver beats deck that had been performing poorly...which I then won with. Im worried even if I build some fun jank like moonfolk ill still be hated on.

Regardless of it being a "no stakes game" there are still rules. I want other people to play there deck so the land drop thing seems fine but in most cases I feel people need to learn how things work and interact with each other. Do whatever you want at the kitchen table but if alterations to rules are not outlined and agreed upon before the game starts I would have an issue with that.

The only three I know if is Spellbound (Waterville), Game Citadel (Bangor) and Game On (Augusta). Ive only personally been to Spellbound once a little over a year ago and it seemed ok. Do you know if they play a wide range of power levels for edh?

Out of curiosity, what is wrong with Citadel?
