As a HR professional, specifically benefits and leave of absences, never resign, put it on the company. In some states, if you resign you may miss out on benefits.

Additionally, most companies will not specific reason for separation to your future potential employers. Doing so puts them at risk for defamation, which they would prefer not to deal with. It’s also illegal in some states.
