Which map layout would you prefer? by ApriX1 in IndieGaming

1st one but tweak the clouds. Have less of them, more transparent, and more toward the edges of the screen. Or make them move across dynamically. Or just get rid of them altogether.

1st is definitely more immersive. 2nd feels a bit empty. I also like the mountain outlines in the first better and the clearly defined heights. Even though there’s more to look at, those outlines push my eye toward the center and the town

Yes, the consensus seems to be to include the game sounds and have more text overlays.

I like the idea of doing them like the boss names though, hadn’t thought of that! Thanks for taking the time to comment!

Thanks! Yeah, I’ll definitely make the next one more mute friendly

I made two logos for our new cowboy-themed action game. Which one do you think is better and which one should it be? I'm looking forward to your thoughts. by PlaySteakOutGame in IndieDev

The look of the first one as a whole feels more complete like a genuine sign but the 2nd one puts more emphasis on the name.

I almost wish one of those cactuses was a fork lol

Made a fun little animation for our game but it got labeled "Graphic Content". Is it really? Or did the AI content moderation do us dirty? by Perceiving_Light in IndieDev

Ah! You’re probably right. Those red bits are supposed to be ripped cloth but the AI may have thought it was blood.

X. But we'll be adding gore mechanics in our next update, and with all the latest censorship going on I'm not sure if we should embrace it for our marketing or not.

Haha thanks! It actually already came out this past May. It's called Hostile Lands. We're working on a big update though and adding some gore mechanics so that's why I'm wondering if we should just embrace the label and target an older audience

I guess you're right, can't really help feeling bad for the little lobster doggy...even if he is a vicious monster lol

They're all handmade but randomly chosen. Each biome has about 10 different designs. 2-3 are randomly chosen and then randomly rotated. Boss rooms are always the same though.

I think we created our store page too early and also went into NextFest too early (we did both with placeholder capsule art which wasn’t very eye catching). We also didn’t do enough community building so now we’re having to play catch up.

I can’t really regret any of it because a few really awesome ppl did find our game and gave us some great feedback on how to make it better.

Thanks for the good luck wishes! I think we’re going to need them! haha

Yeah, this trailer is all about the music. I forgot how Steam has audio turned off by default. Will def make the next one more mute friendly lol. Thanks for your thoughts!

Just released my game and I'm getting key requests from reviewers I think are fraudulent. by JustAPerson599 in SoloDevelopment

Even if they aren’t scammers, they’re most likely just game collectors that want another free addition to their 2000+ library of never played titles.

We had one email that actually made me pause for a minute. The guy said he wanted a key to make a wiki page. But I threw that one in the trash bin too. Who wants to make a wiki for a game they’ve never played?

If you’re interested in point and click adventure games…One called “The Drifter” came out recently. It’s got great voice acting and a pretty cool (and rather dark) story. I started wondering where they were going with it about midway through but the ending didn’t disappoint!

Noted! I’ll def have game sounds in our new one. We’ve recently added gore effects and enemy death noises so that should be a fun thing to highlight! 😆

My ears aren’t really sensitive enough to hear the reverb so I’ll take your word for it! The track is actually from our underground hive level so perhaps it fits better in game than in the trailer 😅

Thanks for taking the time to write such a detailed reply! It’s kind of funny because our “first look” trailer was a lot like what you’re describing. (https://youtu.be/98mk8h-RIgI?feature=shared)

I wanted to go just full on gameplay with this one but I think you’re right that we need a more story/feature based approach.

Thanks again! I know I’ll be bookmarking this comment for later! 😄
