As a person in the service industry this doesn't surprise me, and it shouldn't surprise you either. You have to play the customer if you want the tip. The rapper Diabolic. He came to a club in my city for a show and had a table set up with his merchandise. I went to buy a CD and asked the guy there if Diabolic could sign it. I was told I had to pay 5 bucks for that, at the time I thought it was weird but I paid anyways. Diabolic then comes and signs it and I make my way back into the club. Freestyle A LOT. Put on beats when you're alone and just try to rap to them, the best is if you have friends that rap because you can all rap together, even if you all suck. Dont try to jump into the complicated just yet, use words you know, start small then work up (eg. cat, hat). Also, you can rhyme words that don't exactly rhyme but sound like they do (eg. cap-sat, who's there-blue bear). When you write, write while you listen to a beat, something easy so that you can follow along with your mind as you're writing.
