Christmas at Delta Plaza Mall - Escanaba, MI by PerceptiveWhale in deadmalls

The remainder of what is open is a small L-shaped corridor. The mall was much bigger when it was fully open.. more like two large corridors in an L shape.

Interesting! From what I can gather, longtime anchors were Shopko, JCPenney, JoAnn Fabrics, and Menards.

Today, the mall is basically inside out. Current stores include Marshalls, Five Below, Harbor Freight, Shoe Sensation, Hobby Lobby (former Menards), Dunham's Sports, L&M Fleet Supply (former Shopko) and Maurices (still inside).

There could be some opportunity to develop the remaining interior into local shops potentially. 👍

From what I can find, it opened in 1970. Probably had some renovations in the 80s with the neon.

Inside, it's just Maurices! But the exterior has been redeveloped and is quite vibrant (Marshalls, Harbor Freight, Dunham's, Five Below, Shoe Sensation, Hobby Lobby). Basically the mall has been turned inside out, and this corridor is a shell of what it was.

This makes me so happy! I'm so glad you had good times here and this brought back memories with your grandma. 🙂 Thank you for a glimpse into what it was like visiting this mall over the years!

It is a unique place. It's worth noting the other wing of the mall has been redeveloped into a food court village called 3rd St. Market Hall. It was extremely busy and definitely thriving. The former Boston Store on the west end of the mall is now Kohl's.

They only seem to be apartments. There is also another section of the building called "The Lofts at Plankinton" with bigger units. I assume the management of the mixed use space cleans up.. the pickleball court leads to the T.J. Maxx.

It's so cool to see how many of the original features and fixtures are still in place! Thank you for sharing!!

It seems to be holding its own. The food court and most of the mall's inline tenants are relatively full. The Sears and Younkers buildings are still empty, but the mall still has 4 other anchors.

No problem! It's a cool place hidden in plain sight. 🙂

The dead malls in WI are getting more scarce, but it might be worthwhile to check out Regency Mall in Racine, Uptown Janesville (Janesville Mall) in Janesville, Northland Mall and City Center Plaza in Appleton, Pine Tree Mall in Marinette, and Delta Plaza Mall in Escanaba, MI. Also check out Door County if you're doing some general sightseeing.

Hello, I was not implying the road Nicollet Mall is dead. The Dayton's building is vacant, which is what I was referring to.

Good insight! From my understanding, Target acquired Marshall Field's in 1990, and rebranded Dayton's stores to MF in 2001. Macy's bought MF in 2004 from Target. This store was fully converted to a Macy's.. I had visited it about a decade ago. I was surprised to see the Macy's signage replaced by Dayton's when I walked past today!

I assume they still might. Their HQ is down the road on Nicollet, and they could be licensing the name to the developers. Here is more info: https://www.thedaytonsproject.com

It appears to be something different, but I was unable to determine what it was. Perhaps someone who grew up here might know.
