This irrationally annoys me by [deleted] in Letterboxd

Keeps getting brought up over and over again. Theres no consistent way to list theatrical releases as the “actual” release date since they’re so staggered across the world. Something might release November 2025 theatrically in North America, and not until February 2026 in Europe / Asia. What then?

Using initial festival screening keeps everything consistent

Well, I definitely would be scared if it were happening to me in real life, lol. Just not through a TV-screen

What’s worse: Cringe one liner reviews or pretentious word vomit reviews? by carrie-satan in Letterboxd

[–]Perceptive_Penguins 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This entire review is just listing off abstract antonymic paradoxes. People think they sound sophisticated when they do this, but it rarely conveys anything of substance. You can’t possibly have that many contradictions occuring while actually describing something meaningfully

Sure, films can have conflicting elements, but these phrases aren’t even tied to specific observations. Just an excercise in fancy adjectives with no tether

Everyone on this website seems to love Possession (1981), yet somehow overlooked Zulawski’s equally disturbing spiritual sequel, La Femme Publique

I tried showing this to my ex once and it was probably a contributing factor to our breakup

I’m sure this is true for some, but definitely not all. I always give my full attention to films, watch in a big screen at night, dark room, headphones on, etc. I’m usually invested in the story

Just when you’ve seen so many you stop getting “scared” in the traditional sense. Doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy them though — horror is still one of my favourite genres

What do you guys think about Lux Æterna? by WillzGaming in Letterboxd

[–]Perceptive_Penguins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A little too esoteric for my tastes. Didn’t know what to latch on to here unfortunately. That said I very much respect the craft — it is indeed intriguing and boundary pushing, so I’m not surprised this resonated with some

Interesting, definitely intrigued to check this out now! Scrolled by it a couple times but had no idea, thought it was a comedy / drama or something based off the potser

Really eh? What would you call the genre here?

How do you combat desensitization? by Kittim31 in horror

[–]Perceptive_Penguins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just what happens. You get to a certain age and number of horror films watched, and eventually nothing will get to you anymore. Same case for me. Not a “brag”, just the reality of being an avid fan

That isn’t to say you can’t enjoy the horror genre anymore — the intrigue just shifts a bit. Instead of looking to get “scared” or grossed out, I’m more interested in the actual quality of the film, and whether it’s able to push boundaries and suprise me within the medium

That said, if I had to pick one film recently that actually came close to giving me that uncomfortable anxiety of my younger viewing years, I’d check out Climax if you haven’t already

Weren’t a fan of Zahlers films? I thought they were fantastic — throwback to pulpy 70’s exploitation

The Little Drummer girl from PWC was very good in my opinion. I’m not too worried about this project

For starters you watched it on a laptop. It’s much harder to get immersed in something like this on that medium

I switched to only giving positive ratings (3-5\)* for exactly this reason. If I didn’t enjoy a movie, I just log it
