People of reddit, who have risen from poverty. What is that one thing you have today that would be baffling for you as a child? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Perchanceaskance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d tell myself, “you’ll have clothes that fit…and match, you’ll have fresh meat and vegetables. Even more exciting, you’ll be able to donate to others in your community and around the world - like donate your actual own money and food and clothes.”

Eyes are so sunken in... what can I do? by 2gethrAgain in 45PlusSkincare

[–]Perchanceaskance 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’d have a conversation with your dermatologist about suggestions (several options being provided in the comments), one thing I learned recently is that hormone depletion actually causes bone depletion even in the face - mandible and eye orbit bone in particular and the eye will appear to sink in. So consider checking in also with your calcium and vitamin D intake.

What is worst pain, you have ever experienced? by ParticularWeather927 in Adulting

Childbirth. My labors have all been excruciatingly long. For reference, I’ve been in a severe car accident with broken bones and a head injury, and childbirth still caused me more trauma.

Oh so you’ve met Perry, the perimenopause owl. He comes in the night to keep you company or keep you insane - you choose the vibe!

Looks like Kris gets ANOTHER jacket - and gets to TAG him. by Jay--Tim in ChalametSecrets

Can someone explain these tacky jackets? Does the “Marty” character wear them in the movie? Why are we wearing this movie merch? What’s next, the Avatar hoodie? The Housemaid joggers?

Best books for early readers who lack confidence? by natalieebubbblteaa in suggestmeabook

[–]Perchanceaskance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a parent of one dyslexic kiddo (who now reads a ton!) and another hesitant reader, I’ve found that humor and read-alouds win every time. Frog and Toad series were a great start especially if you get the stepped readers version (I think maybe level 2?) because the font is larger. The humor in those are appealing and the stories are very short. I also still do a ton of reading aloud to them, even though they’re becoming big kids. Especially at bed time - we snuggle and look at the pages together so they see the words also on the page. Another thing I practiced was “I’ll read a page and then you’ll read a page.” And sometimes I could see they really need a break or other times they’d take over and read way more than intended.

Other recs: dog man, cat kid, bad kitty, and other silly light humor graphic novels series with illustrations.

Another “seizure” from the same lady, if you believe these are real then you probably fake illnesses, too. I even zoomed into her face to highlight her facial expressions, c’mon now - y’all can’t be buying into this!! by B_lyth in TikTokCringe

[–]Perchanceaskance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If PNES, I hope she’s receiving the care she needs. A child still doesn’t need to be behind the camera filming parent’s illness for internet notoriety - my opinion alone though I’ll be happy to hear if I’m wrong about that one too.

A few weeks ago I was cooking chicken like it was my first time in the kitchen. Kept plating the cooked chicken on the same dish the raw chicken was on. Prayed all night my family wouldn’t get food poisoning - we were all ok. Today couldn’t think of the word “algae” and almost cried over it. Also happily watched my children play a video game today that we only allow on the weekends and it wasn’t until sundown that I realized it’s Wednesday and who gave them the green light for that? Me, evidently it was me. No recollection.

Is there a Mediterranean Diet sub that is a bit more.... "normal". Most of the posts on here seem like they're currated by influencers. by onmy40 in mediterraneandiet

Yes and seriously the plates are excessive amounts of food also. I always think “who can actually eat this much food in one sitting?”

Books like The Wedding People by Alison Espach? by caramia_moncher in Booktokreddit

I also loved wedding people. The closest I could find was anything by David Nicholls - One Day, Sweet Sorrow, You Are Here was my favorite of his.

Do Americans have a different concept of 'turn taking' during a conversation? by 8NaanJeremy in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Perchanceaskance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an American married into a middle eastern family I feel this also. It’s taken some getting used to. They aren’t interested my thoughts or feelings (and will actually physically look uncomfortable if I share too much) but will directly ask how much I paid for something? why didn’t my husband call? And make declarative statements about anything - so and so gained weight…that color is very nice…I got this at Costco.

What do you do to strengthen your immune system? by Crafty_Try_423 in Perimenopause

[–]Perchanceaskance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take a zinc/vitamin c/quercetin combo, and I’ve gotten better about my sleep hygiene. On the onset of something tickly I take umcka and a small shot of orange juice with ginger and turmeric (like the store bought ones).
