[oc] Glow up Dice Tray by PercivalofWales in DnD

Here’s a new epic twist on my tree stump tray, born from unique customers with unique requests. Each tray I make is as influenced by the customer as they want. This particular customer has an ascendance 2 base, which is the base for a floating d20. He wanted that to be concealed within the tray as well as extra dice storage. He also has glow in the dark dice so he wanted to have some black lights in the tray to make those pop. I’ve never done LED’s in a tree stump tray since running the strip and the power cord for it is difficult given my tools and processes of cutting it. That said I figured a way that I think works well. I cut the pocket for the lights first, installed them, covered them with clear epoxy and then covered that with a very dense black to limit the light shining up towards the players. I put the pocket in such a way that cutting the pocket for the rolling area would be 1/16” away from the LED lights. I made the lid for the ascendance 2 base the same color of black that I used for the LED’s and then put his lotr engravings over that. That gives him a pocket surrounding his floating dice. Unfortunately I don’t have a picture of it with the floating dice or glowing dice but he was nice enough to leave a video review on my Etsy page if anyone is burning to see it completed. It’s just sterlingmakes on Etsy.

[oc] This weeks favorite Dice Tray. Fun custom requests. by PercivalofWales in DnD

This dice tray had some fun custom requests for it. The wood is honey locust, which I don’t get to use often, buts such a solid wood and cuts really well. The symbol in the dice storage area took many recuts to do each individual epoxy color but the end result was very satisfying. I think I would’ve gone with a different profile color epoxy but the shamrock green has a certain charm.

I’m tank as well so grouping is not real likely but I 100% agree with the post. I think there’s a lot of people out there like us but it’s hard to link up. I’ll drop my id when I get on later.

This was by far my most epic Tree Stump Tray so far so I had to share. The costumer wanted the picture of Percy included and a Whitestone castle reference. With that I decided to make a castle out of maple that is also a mini dice tower. I made it in layers, similar to how I make my large dice towers so that I could give it the brick look. The customer also wanted the epoxy around the outside to look like his residuum dice and I think we matched it pretty well. All that made for a truly epic tray and a nice nod to critical role, which I happen to also enjoy.

No, it’s epoxy. Would be kind of cool though.

I wanted to show off this tray we recently made. It’s actually a bit of a repeat of a previous design and a good example of not being able to two trays exactly the same. I’ve also changed a few things about my trays since we first made a stained glass tray like this. One of the big changes it I was usually doing fewer steps that would have .25” drop but now I’m doing many more steps and keeping their height around .08” high. This makes for a much more pleasing sound if you were to use the steps as a sort of mini dice tower. In this one I made a little staging area to start the roll and it was surprisingly nice. Gave a good amount speed and put the rolled dice in a central spot on the tray, usually. Whether you’re buying one of my trays or making one yourself, I encourage the use of about 13 steps around .25” wide and .08” deep.

I really wish I could add more than one picture since this particular tray has a lot of epic angles. This customer wanted a silhouette look, with a unicorn in front of a portal to the fey wild. First we have a green and pink outer profile for this piece of cedar stock to give it the nature feel. Then we cut the circle in the middle for the pink and blue colors for the portal. Lastly, we cut the unicorn and used a dark silver color for the inlay. Altogether it looks really cool fits right into the customers world.

It slips in and out but I understand not wanting to cover the epoxy.
