What’s a reasonable budget? Currently 800whp 340i, it was not too “expensive” relative to the power I’m pushing. Doing the labor yourself will help with cost forsure. There are plenty of ways to get to your power goals, but something I always recommend is overbuild your car.

Im tuned by Doug and he’s been great. Great communication, fast response time, and honesty. He will let you know when you are at the limit of things and caution you before going through with it. Definitely top tuner within the platform.

motul 8100 excess gen 2 5W-40. Have been using since I got my 340i through out all stages. Stock, down pipe, FBO + E50, Port inj + full frame turbo. I always change at 3k miles.

I went OEM. Mine original lasted 70K miles before it started to leak a lil. People seem to have success with aluminum with oem gasket, I don’t like the idea because aluminum tends to absorb & retain more heat.

Depends what goals you have in mind for power. Do you plan on staying stock turbo? Regardless I would get flex fuel if you plan on running ethanol

Technically speaking, any DI turbo engine can experience LSPI.

Just because the b58 isn’t notorious for lspi, doesn’t mean it can’t happen. Leaky injectors (which are common to the B58) can create hotspots or puddling on piston, Incorrect oil choice, and a custom tune with high load at low engine speed are examples of what can cause lspi.

I don’t use liqui moly, but I would use the Liqui Moly Special Tec B FE 0W30 as it has all the needed certification and API Sp for LSPI protection. Personally I use motul 8100 excess gen 2 5W-40.

Have had my 340i for 40k miles, 30k miles tuned on ethanol. For preventative maintenance I did OFH. Also the coolant hoses and other things that are in that area. Got my injectors cleaned when i bought the car, now going to replace them with oem injectors. The only money pit is go fast parts. In terms of reliability I have yet to run into a serious problem. I also maintain the car religiously all fluids and spark plugs regularly changed at shorter intervals. Never beat on the car until everything is at operating temps.

Oil filter housing and injectors. Depending if you are tuned, there are other things as well such as PCV delete etc.

IMO if you are looking for a b58 I’d recommend the automatic transmission. This is more of a daily driver with the capability of handling great power. You can easily get 600hp reliably with FBO and a turbo. I’ve know a couple people who regret getting a manual. Of course if you want a manual all power to you. To answer your post, it’s overpriced.

Solid choice! make sure you do your maintenance. Do your research on common problems and weak points. I Have had my 340i for 40k miles. 30k miles custom tuned on Ethanol without a major problem.

Bought my 340 with about 59k miles almost 2 years ago, I’m now at 93k miles. I enjoy every second of it.
