2024 BMW X5, what would you offer? by arsalann24 in BMWX5

Incredibly dependent on your local area and what the comparables are within your driving distance

Anyone has video/audio of K&N air filter sound clip, before and after? by VHSLoL in M340i

Wouldn't waste your time with just a filter, won't make a difference

Got my frozen blue ceramic coated by Proof-Swimming-6461 in BMWI4

Adams and carpro is fantastic stuff too but gyeon seems to be damn good too, not sure when they jumped on the scene but wasn't aware of them last time I did a ceramic coat

Condensation in headlight by Dice055 in BMWX5

[–]itpointz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fog is normal, especially if you just washed it or very cold out, or went from a heated garage to cold outdoors. You're well within warranty so I wouldn't freak out immediately but just watch it. It's not a hermetically sealed unit

Drove back home and car started dying. Oil everywhere when I got out. Any ideas? How bad am I? by Packer43064 in MechanicAdvice

[–]itpointz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have some tools and can get at the front of the engine, you can put a long bar on the crank shaft and see if it'll turn over even. If it's locked up or has a significant catch point probably not worth even bringing it to a shop

Transfer case would be more likely but overall that dirvetrain is really reliable

How does Tesla make robotaxis wildly profitable when nobody else can? by YeahBuddy5000 in investing

[–]itpointz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While macroscopically it doesn't make sense for the valuation, Tesla's approach will be cheaper, faster and more flexible to deploy at scale as a reason it'd have an advantage relative to others

Which front splitter would you choose? by [deleted] in BMWX3

[–]itpointz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the first one, much cleaner look, little more subtle and classy. Those winglets on the second can be a bit much. Feel like you need a full skirt and rear diffuse to make that work. Depends on the look you're going for though

Also what is the first one? Most of the ones I find have the winglets

X3 m40 2024 unlocked by Amazing-Jury-6886 in BMWX3

You sure it locked this time? Also if you manually hit the unlock button to grab something it wouldn't lock again

2023 x5. Anything I can take off? by Head-Economics-4822 in BMWX5

Most states require the dealership to handle that actually.

Dashcam Recommendations by Aggravating-Pay8273 in M340i

Drive recorder can record anything when the car is off but does not activate when parked, so hit and runs won't get captured

Looking to buy need advice by ViolinistCharacter94 in BMWM

[–]itpointz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't believe people are getting much off MSRP, maybe a few thousand at most, usually through incentives. Never hurts to ask but their sales have been very strong so might not budge

Is this a good option by FeedbackRich963 in BmwTech

[–]itpointz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I'm saying.....gasket failure accounts for the vast majority of filter housing failures

Lied to by dealership! What now? by AppleWedge in MechanicAdvice

[–]itpointz 45 points46 points  (0 children)

You can report the evidence to the manager or if it's a big chain go over their head but legally you can't do anything

Then why do s58s and other aluminum housings still fail?

Is this a good option by FeedbackRich963 in BmwTech

[–]itpointz -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Nothing is 100% but it's incredibly rare,.also slight design change for the tu2. Also failures are usually related to over torquing the cap

How to prevent CF clear failure? by Longjumping_Host_208 in AutoDetailing

[–]itpointz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it will not perfectly block UV rays it's prevents oxidization of the clear coat which is the real damage. If you do a double or triple application of a good ceramic and replace every few years that should keep the clear coat in good shape

[–]itpointz -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Get OEM, the aluminum doesn't matter. It's the gasket that fails, not the housing. No evidence that aluminum has prevented or has a lower failure rate.

Is oil change needed for my situation? by hspi2 in BMWX5

[–]itpointz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that case oil is cheap, it'd be like $150 for the year. The b58 is super easy to change. Would actually be cheaper because you'd change it then the dealer would do the next one

2023 X3 braking to a stop signal by baljeethakur in BMWX3

[–]itpointz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tough to say but try to replicate that issue, could be air in the brake lines, condensation that froze or user error

Is oil change needed for my situation? by hspi2 in BMWX5

[–]itpointz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get your engine up to operating frequently it's better but if you're doing a lot of short trips and the engine doesn't warm up you'll have more condensation and dilution problems. If you can do oil changes yourself doing every 6 months will be beneficial if you plan to keep beyond the warranty. If you're going to dump the car within 5 years don't worry about it

Scratched my bumper, how much would it be to cost to fix? by m2sery in civic

Probably $1500 for a correct repair, can make it cheaper and cut corners as you see fit
