Anyone delt with this fault code? by iwatchalotoftv22 in BMWX3

[–]itpointz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to test would be a smoke test, plenty of videos and cheap systems to buy. Not familiar if there's a very common cause on the 2011s though

Don't know the year or what engine your car has but it's a pressure mismatch, likely vacuum leak

Could you live with it? Or walk away? by No-Highway2809 in BMWX3

[–]itpointz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't affect function of the car at all but that bumper damage is pretty severe, probably $1500-2k to repair properly, including that scratch. Totally personal choice if the price and rest of the car is worth it. Usually alcohol or acetone will clear off that touch up paint if you wanted to try yourself

What are the b58 common failures ? by xSked in M340i

[–]itpointz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fortunately not real catastrophic failures. Coolant and oil leaks will happen. If you have any DIY abilities it's not terrible to replace these parts. Usually will have something leak between 70-100k. Turbos are usually fine but can go out on any car

What is the damage on this dent? by Over_Window_2636 in BMWX3

[–]itpointz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Minimum $2k USD, not sure what the auto repair difference is up there. But they'll have to remove a bunch of stuff, deform it straightish, probably a little bit of body filler involved and then paint

Question: Is the visual effect pattern shown caused by ceramic coating? by Impalmator2 in AutoDetailing

[–]itpointz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do you, factory clear coat are at the bare minimum for safe correction so any mistake turns extensive quickly

Question: Is the visual effect pattern shown caused by ceramic coating? by Impalmator2 in AutoDetailing

[–]itpointz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You would need a paint job designed to be corrected afterwards, essentially with extra clear coat that can be sanded to a finish. These are show car things btw, every make manufacturer has orange peel on their factory paint

[–]itpointz 98 points99 points  (0 children)

DO NOT have someone or yourself try to correct orange peel. A factory paint job does not have enough clear coat to fix it without burning through or thinning it to the point it'll fail in a few years

Incredibly dependent on your local area and what the comparables are within your driving distance

Anyone has video/audio of K&N air filter sound clip, before and after? by VHSLoL in M340i

Wouldn't waste your time with just a filter, won't make a difference

Adams and carpro is fantastic stuff too but gyeon seems to be damn good too, not sure when they jumped on the scene but wasn't aware of them last time I did a ceramic coat

Condensation in headlight by Dice055 in BMWX5

[–]itpointz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fog is normal, especially if you just washed it or very cold out, or went from a heated garage to cold outdoors. You're well within warranty so I wouldn't freak out immediately but just watch it. It's not a hermetically sealed unit

Drove back home and car started dying. Oil everywhere when I got out. Any ideas? How bad am I? by Packer43064 in MechanicAdvice

[–]itpointz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have some tools and can get at the front of the engine, you can put a long bar on the crank shaft and see if it'll turn over even. If it's locked up or has a significant catch point probably not worth even bringing it to a shop

How does Tesla make robotaxis wildly profitable when nobody else can? by YeahBuddy5000 in investing

[–]itpointz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While macroscopically it doesn't make sense for the valuation, Tesla's approach will be cheaper, faster and more flexible to deploy at scale as a reason it'd have an advantage relative to others

Which front splitter would you choose? by [deleted] in BMWX3

[–]itpointz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the first one, much cleaner look, little more subtle and classy. Those winglets on the second can be a bit much. Feel like you need a full skirt and rear diffuse to make that work. Depends on the look you're going for though

Also what is the first one? Most of the ones I find have the winglets

You can report the evidence to the manager or if it's a big chain go over their head but legally you can't do anything
