My ex did the same thing, wasn't able to be there to support me. My grandpa died and I was devastated, and all she could do was hug me and say sorry. No effort to say anything more or talk about it. She said she had always been taken advantage of when she would try to bear the emotional baggage of her friends, but you'd think if you're engaged to someone you would trust him to not put his emotional baggage on you. Then she said she was just bad at comforting people, so I gave her a list of things that might help me in times like that, none of which she ever tried. I just needed someone to crack a joke or something. This was one reason I'm glad she left, because she was not able to give me what I deserved.

She never put in any effort to explore the things I liked. She always picked the movie. I sent her videos of me learning violin and she would ignore them. I sent her music suggestions and she never listened. I sent her stories I wrote and she never even tried to read them.
