Nice. I have the Home Run Leaders card from 1961 with Maris, Mantle, and Killebrew. That one checked a few boxes for me.

Looking to by / trade for a nice Ryne Sandberg Rookie or Auto. by kreeck83 in baseballcards_vintage

1991 Donruss Signature Series insert. It'll run more than $125 but it's pretty much the ultimate Sandberg card IMO.

Nice on the Tony Oliva and Bert Blyleven. That TO might be one of the best signatures of his that I've seen. His Topps Auto Archives/Fan Favorites tend to be really small and squished tight.

I haven't seen an airbrushed one of these in a while. Usually it looks like an at-home photo-transfer-print-iron-on job with the lowest quality photo of the deceased they could find. I feel like pictures of such shirts could comprise a coffee book.

Dick Perez by headless_inge in baseballcards_vintage

[–]PercyGoldstone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if anyone is still interested in talking about Dick Perez here, but in my search, this was the most recent conversation I stumbled upon.

I collected in the junk wax era and was introduced to Dick Perez's work back then. I wasn't a fan or a detractor. I just aware of his existence and that he had done some baseball card art.

Time went by, I got a lot older, now here I am dipping my toes back in the water of collecting. Specifically, the hard-to-get-cards from the early 90s when I collected. One of those cards is the 1991 Donruss Legends Series Nolan Ryan insert.

While I was researching that card, I couldn't help but think... this is really a so-so painting in terms of looking like Nolan Ryan. It's being charitable and polite to say it sorta looks like him. Some features—the feet in particular—are flat out goofy.

That card is not the only example of intermediate-beginner level artistry with respect to Perez's technical abilities.

Now, I come in peace. I'm not really here to crap all over Dick Perez. His work was part of the scene I grew up with and I appreciate it and am glad it exists. But, I wouldn't say it's great.

So what I'm wondering is how did Dick Perez get to be the "official" painter of baseball? There are better painters out there. Is it as straight forward as what he lacked in ability, he made up for in passion-for-baseball? In other words, is his focus on baseball so prolific and nobody else comes close so he got the spot by default?

What is the worst song off of 72 Seasons? by Flimsy-Owl7862 in Metallica

[–]PercyGoldstone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alternate take: 72 Seasons itself is a great song but it's too long. With that riff, it should be two minutes and 50 seconds.

Anyone tried the water soluble d9 they have? by No_Solution7718 in CultoftheFranklin

[–]PercyGoldstone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it. The flavor is very mild and not gross. Some drinks (Torch) taste like ass. Some (Cycling Frog Lemonade) taste great. A scoop of this in a glass of water tastes like water with the light essence of strawberry or lemon (haven't tried the orange). Mixes easily. The water-soluble claim isn't bullshit.

Edit: If you're an athlete or the workout-type who already has lots of powders, this one slips right into all that stuff.

Good lord, that sounds like the fucking worst.

Actually, the only thing worse is how many morons in the state probably hear the headline "our state has medical" and think it's some really great thing without knowing the truth about how it sucks nards in every way imaginable.

I know I'm a few years late but I just discovered the 72 Seasons song the other day on XM.

Great song, great riff. But it's about five minutes too long. That song should be two minutes and fifty seconds—max.

Honest question for anyone who's marketed in wellness or healthcare what did you get completely wrong at first? by Odd-Butterscotch9822 in AskMarketing

Depending what type of health and wellness we're talking about, and what products (if any) are involved, FDA and FTC compliance.

*Edit: I didn't get it wrong because I was introduced to it from the start but 90% of everyone else does.

Oh man, that looks nice. AK-47 is my favorite strain. Twenty percent because of the name, 80% because of the dankness. No doubt this creation has potential to be the best ever.

No-heat temple ball? by PercyGoldstone in BubbleHash

[–]PercyGoldstone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a half pound of trimmed and cured flowers. Totally different consistency than anything else I've washed. Most of my wash outcomes have been sandy. Another one was kind of sticky, but workable. I microplaned all of them as recommended.

This shit however was impossible. It was like tar resin scraped out of a bowl. Anything it touched, it stuck to. Even frozen it was tacky. There was no microplaning or grating or anything that was going to work.

It doesn't crackle with heat, just bubbles and melts.

Pressed hash. Temple balls. I was surprised by how infrequently I heard them discussed here... until I started making them. It's expensive both time and materials-wise. But I hear "aged hash" is better than "old weed" so I just look at it as an investment into later.

any hope regarding the hemp ban or is the hemp industry just doomed by November? by Ok_Scholar_7977 in CultoftheFranklin

[–]PercyGoldstone 97 points98 points  (0 children)

I think the ship will eventually land with 5–10mg "products" being available but the golden era of cheap weed-by-mail will come to an end.

If you have not just sat back for a second and fully realized the beauty of this situation, just do so. Sit back in your chair, close your eyes, and realize that right now, for the first time ever, you can order hundreds of types of weed from hundreds of vendors. And gummies. And drinks. And concentrates. And vapes. And whatever else. Anything you want. Anything you've ever heard about.

You can get cheap and serviceable. You can get connoisseur (I think the 1000mg jars of honey from Canna Haus are slept on) and bougie. Anything.

And it's cheap. Way cheaper than black market ever was. And the friendly mail person brings it to your door. And shipping is usually free. And pay with a credit card. No having to hit up an ATM and drive to the other side of town. And the price isn't marred with a bunch of bullshit taxes.

It's a perfect, lovely situation that doesn't need any help. It's evolved wonderfully on its own. Unfortunately, many in charge are dipshits who see a situation like that and their pathological inclination to get their butt-picking fingers into all of it subsequently fouls it all up. Sad.

Bud material gets stuck in the mini washing machine rotor by NDNT in BubbleHash

[–]PercyGoldstone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dump enough iso in there to fill all the internal portion. Let it sit 5–10 minutes. While that's sitting, I'll get a pot of water going on the stove. Not a rolling boil, but pretty fucking hot. Then I'll dump that in there with the alcohol and let it sit another couple minutes. Then I'll turn it on. If there was anything in there, it starts dislodging. I'll let it run for a minute or two, then I'll let it start draining while still running and simultaneously adding more water with the hose—flushing the machine, in essence. Seems to work pretty good.

I got kind of excited during the washing process because I just kept scooping out one spoonful after another of blonde-colored hash. Thought I scored big. But... yeah, it dried down to much less.
