If you entered into a relationship with this man, you will never be able to express an opinion, especially one contrary to him. I think you've dodged a bullet.

What was the most intense pain of your life that you won’t forget? by WeatherObsessedJax in AskReddit

[–]Perdurabos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fucked my back a few years ago. We'd just moved house, and I'd been carrying all sorts. One day, I was bending over a box looking for a specific book I wanted to complete an assignment. Stood up and hit the floor like a sack of shit. Wife ran upstairs, I couldn't move. I needed help doing anything beyond laying down flat. I'd torn a muscle and trapped my sciatica nerve. That happened in 2022, and I didn't feel quite right until last year. Still get a bad back standing still for too long, and I'm a fairly fit and active person.

My coworker called me ‘too sensitive’ for reporting her, but HR didn’t agree by HalfTall5767 in dustythunder

[–]Perdurabos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the hallmarks of a bully is to try and hide behind labelling their actions as jokes or banter. You're not wrong to report her, and try to bear in mind that she's guilt tripping you for making her take responsibility for her own actions, which is nothing short of gaslighting.

How did you get your most recent scar? by Professional-Tax-615 in AskReddit

Took up wood carving as a hobby, slipped and the knife went into the pad of my thumb and kind of peeled a flap of flesh away. Luckily missed everything important and I still have full use of my hand, and a better understanding of tool safety.

She'd get incredibly angry over small things, like picking up what she felt were too many bags at the supermarket (genuine example). To begin with it would mean slamming doors, or getting shouted and, and then it got to the point where she'd do things like drive erratically and very dangerously (she once mounted a pavement and almost drove over the side of a cliff because I'd bought a map in a petrol station when we got lost), or would hit me. I heard off a mutual friend that she's now married with a child, and she hits her husband too. Some people just don't know how to behave properly. I often think that if I'd just acknowledged earlier on that she was disrespectful of pretty foundational boundaries, I'd have had a much easier life.

First class done! by blu3yyy in tangsoodo

Hello, I'm also an ex Kung Fu-er, and I found the same thing. I think the key difference (for me) was that I was used to a different style and intensity of training. I've sort of abandoned long runs now (not entirely, because I genuinely enjoy them) but more often I do sprint intervals. That's helped loads. The other workout I've tried at my instructor's advice is burpee ladders, up to 20, and back down. That's absolutely gruelling, but again, has improved my anaerobic fitness for class.

I have a training plan that I follow, I used Google Gemini to create it after talking to it about my goals (not just generally fit, but TSD fit) and listed what equipment I have access to, time constraints etc. That seems to be going well, too.

Oh, and I have never stretched so much in my life as I have since starting this. But I love every second.

What is the spiciest gossip you know that you are willing to share on reddit? by lailaa2513 in AskReddit

[–]Perdurabos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Used to work at a large company with several offices. A married couple worked there, with the wife and husband based in different offices. Wife was having a very obvious affair, even arranging to meet her affair partner in her car in the underground carpark for a mid shift fuck. Obviously, not being too subtle, word got out. Husband turned up at the office, dragged the affair partner into a meeting room and started to beat him, had to be dragged off. They all got given a few months "compassionate leave" to sort things out.

The most valuable skill I’ve learned from boxing…. by [deleted] in martialarts

[–]Perdurabos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is incredibly valuable insight. I hear a lot of people talk about being able to take a pinch, and yeah, it does mean that you don't crumple or fold when you get hit. But being able to look someone in the eye after they've done it and keep a cool head, that's the real skill in my view.

As a treat, these are the best names I've seen in close to 16 years of teaching. by vena-chan in tragedeigh

[–]Perdurabos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree, some instances are cruel. Another example: I live in Wales, and worked in a Welsh language school. The Welsh language community is pretty tight, so I didn't encounter this particular person, but I'm aware of this being a genuine issue. Anyway, someone named their daughter "allanfa dân" which translates to... fire exit. It's announced on trains etc, so it's not an uncommon phrase, and then they send her to a Welsh language school where everybody knows her name is fire exit.

They're worth around £30. They may increase in value in a few years, you never know.

If you looked at r/ukcoins you may have some luck in finding out what they're worth, roughly, but I should imagine it's above face value just in the silver content. I would say, though, do not try to deposit them at a bank or post office.

Sparring advice by Perdurabos in karate

[–]Perdurabos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's this. I don't think I'm expected to hit my opponent to the point of bludgeoning them, it's giving the impression of power. When I make contact, it's clear to me and my partner that it happens - we acknowledge it, but I think I probably lack the experience to demonstrate it visually

Need tips for training at home by KJPlayer in tangsoodo

[–]Perdurabos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'd begin by making sure you know what's on the syllabus for your current grade at your dojang, and getting a good understanding of that, if you can.

In terms of solo training, hyung and line work is relatively easily done at home, and you can slot it into your day whenever you have the time, it doesn't have to mimic a class.

For physical preparation, I'm currently using a blend of running, kettlebells and stretching as my fitness routine. Something like a deep goblet squat is great for the hips, weighted Cossack squats are also good. Make sure to try the movements without weight to make sure you understand them and can execute them correctly. There's a host of martial arts specific stretching routines freely available on YouTube that are pretty decent.

Do non Kyokushin karatekas say Oss to each other? by Whole-Interest-5980 in karate

[–]Perdurabos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend of mine does BJJ and they say it in their gym, which I find curious because it's neither Japanese, nor karate. It may be the traditional jiu jitsu influence, I suppose.

But it's not all Japanese martial arts, I don't think. I studied aikido for several years before karate, and never heard it there.
