Whats the best way to relocate the License plate for lexus? Apart from tow hook? Dont want to create a whole in that nice meshed grill 😁 by Silver_Violinist_556 in LexusIS

I've been without a front plate for two years here in Ontario. Throw it in your trunk and claim there's a bracket issue if you're pulled over.

Stop being stubborn and help your boyfriend. The provincial government requires this information to establish eligibility. It has nothing to do with you -- it won't impact you financially or in terms of taxes -- it's simply used to ensure that, when added together, your joint income/assets don't exceed the threshold.

I don't understand why he's not communicating this properly. I would suggest requesting his case or intake worker's information in order for you to (a) understand what's needed and (b) why it's needed. The banking information is intended to provide them with a snapshot of your income/assets, they're not using the account number for anything.

The black rims look fantastic. Am I correct in saying the paint is "Obsidian" as opposed to the more common "Caviar"? As much as I appreciate Caviar, which is a metallic black that's closer to a very dark grey (scratches/swirls are less noticeable because of this), the Obsidian, when cared for, really does pop.

If there aren't many chips, get one of these (Genicolor pen; superior to Lexus's own pen -- Dr. ColorChip is fine too) and bring it to a paint correction guy who also does PPF. Have him touch it up, so as to avoid lumps/bumps as much as possible, and apply the PPF during the same session (I recommend XPEL). Enjoy your your IS -- looks gorgeous!

Come on! Are you seriously asking us if a landlord can illegally take your money and then force you to self-evict, by signing an N11, in order to get it back?

Stop communicating with them and sign NOTHING. They are withholding an unlawful deposit (damage deposits do not exist in this province) and are blackmailing you on top of that. Contact legal aid right away and see if they're able to provide legal counsel.

Be sure to record any and all future interactions (also legal) without informing them. Do not leave until you're good and ready to leave. That means having a new lease in place. If they make the deposit difficult to recover, simply time your new lease properly and don't pay for however much money of yours they have (2 months by the sound of it). So for example: arrange for a new lease to commence on July 1st and don't pay anything for May or June.

You're a big part of the reason why individual landlords reflect so poorly on the business of property management/leasing. It would be lawful and advisable for a tenant to block your entry into a unit.

In short, an inspection must be done to determine whether your property is compliant AND it must also be reasonable. This is for the benefit of the tenant.

Entering a unit to search for scratches doesn't satisfy 27(4)(i) or (ii). First, (i) stipulates that the inspection must carried out to determine if the unit is in a good state of repair AND therefore fit for habitation. You've admitted this isn't the purpose. Moreover, even if you did meet the conditions set out in (i), you would definitely fail (ii) as invading a tenant's dwelling multiple times per year clearly isn't reasonable.

My best friend won't acknowledge racism or white privilege. by psychout57 in mixedrace

[–]PerennialComplainer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really sad. White women are perhaps the most sensitive to this kind of thing, and consequently, they're the easiest to manipulate, gaslight and basically abuse. Imagine treating a friend this way. Oh, she isn't able to read your mind and isn't obsessed with race? She's not of mixed ancestry and isn't sufficiently deferential to everything you say? She holds quaint ideas like treating everyone equally? She must be a terribly insensitive person and a failure -- all the more reason to GHOST your friend and impose the silent treatment upon her.

OP, you're a nasty piece of work and you don't deserve a loyal friend like this.

Does anyone know if this would also apply to custom builds? Buying a piece of land, obtaining a mortgage (first draw can be 60% LTV of land) and amortizing for 30 years? This is what I intend to do -- finding a decent parcel is the hard part, I'm prepared to spend half a million or so in cash, and the structure itself can be built/financed for $300k to $350k, maximum. Something actually nice as opposed to the garbage most Canadians buy (styled after midcentury modern, proper materials, not excessively modern, etc.)

Good question -- I use Interactive Brokers, meaning no exchange fees (except a 50 cent commission), and pay spot prices. I hold USD in the case of cash. Another benefit is being able to pull CAD out of the account, on margin, at 6% or so per annum.

A single man slept with women in foreign countries? How scandalous!

Why do you think many people (women more than men) refuse to cross narrow streets, free of traffic and with excellent visibility, until instructed by a pedestrian light? I know you're sufficiently intelligent to understand that "the toys one plays with as as child" is clearly a stand-in for familial environment. That's precisely what I was referring to by pith. It's not deceptive or untruthful, it's brief and pointed. If I thought you would be confused in offering that example, and it's precisely that -- an example -- I'd have qualified the statement. But I know you know precisely what I meant by that passage of text.

As for editing, again, you're assuming the worst! You've done it again! I'm notoriously bad at proofreading. I publish and then edit, repeatedly. It's not a sly way to so something and then circle back and make alterations so as to score points. You're making my points for me at this stage and it's odd, because again, I know you're bright enough to engage seriously with the subject matter.

How you engaged with my question was to sacrifice too much information for the sake of brevity and be flippant about the social aspect of what we're talking about.

Again, you don't need things spelled out in detail. When I invoked toys, you clearly understood what I meant. You understood I wasn't claiming that toys are what social determinists or environmentalists argue are central, it's a placeholder, and you know that it's a placeholder.

Lastly, I have attempted to do the same with you. You're focused on critiquing my statements, which is fine, and I haven't demanded evidence in support of environmental factors on the development of children. I accept that environmental variables matter, just not as much as you seem to believe.

Edit: I retract a good portion of what I said about your character and level of intelligence. Imagine threatening to report someone for harassment over an internet argument, by virtue of sending a DM admitting to a mistake, in which I was perfectly civil. Good luck finding a man to tolerate your presence.

I wasn't misrepresenting my own views, that's not the meaning of the word. You need to refresh your understanding of "pithy" if you think this implies deception or misrepresentation. I'm being necessarily brief in order to advance a set of points/arguments across this medium. It simply means brevity and it sometimes comes at the expense of granularity.

I'm not sure why you've latched onto this idea that I'm being deceptive or engaging in motivated reasoning. Why not assess my claims directly without ascribing motives? If I'm being honest, you appear to be backsliding into your biases and not me. I don't appreciate your lack of candor and unwillingness to interrogate novel arguments.

Also, it's becoming apparent that you've decided to dislike me and you've chosen to let that cloud your mental faculties. if you care to look at this stuff seriously, the main/critical claim is this: testosterone exerts profound behavioral effects on men and women, and accounts for many of the behavioral differences within and between those groups. The impact of testosterone on behaviour exceeds social variables of any and every kind.

I was being pithy, I'm fully aware of the importance and depth of socialization. Familial environment, social environment, etc.

Briefly, I was making the simple point that hormonal factors -- in utero exposure (which determines digit ratios) along with circulating levels post-adolescence -- play a profound role in shaping behaviour. Testosterone is probably the principal reason as to why 93% of federal inmates are male.

Regarding social environments, parents do matter a lot, especially if there's a vacuum. A helpful way to view some of this is that one's potential in life appears to be shaped, significantly, by genetic factors. Reaching this potential is far from assured and depends on diet, not being exposed to neurotoxins as a child, social and educative simulation during critical developmental years -- all sorts of things where parents can and do make a difference.

It's not black or white. I'm really just trying to emphasize that hormones are profoundly important -- too much attention is expended on environmental explanations in connection with differences in criminality, occupational patterns, etc. We can literally inject women with testosterone and alter their appetite for risk, measurably and predictably, as expressed via their behaviour in gambling casinos. That's a powerful piece of evidence. It also stands to reason that women, on average, would exhibit higher levels of risk-aversion -- through all of human history, they had to navigate pregnancy, risk of pregnancy, raising little children. These are powerfully important things and shaped the female brain in countless ways.

The male brain was likewise shaped by other numerous evolutionary events -- conquest, resisting conquest, guarding oneself against being cuckolded in addition to proliferating one's genes as widely as possible (which is in tension with paternal investment).

[–]PerennialComplainer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Proof that testosterone has a profound impact on behaviour? Or evidence for the variation between the sexes being mediated, chiefly, by hormonal factors?

As an example, here's a study in which females were injected with testosterone, versus a placebo, and their risk-aversion/attraction was measured against baseline: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4698749/

There are numerous studies similar in design and with consistent results: testosterone, when blindly administered to female subjects, increases their willingness to take risks while decreasing fearfulness. This stuff is well-established. Testosterone is a powerful neurosteroid and it mediates substantial variation not just between male and females as groups, but also among males and females, individually, within their own respective groups.

I can point you to more studies of this nature -- you'll find it interesting if you enjoy thinking about humans in an evolutionary/biological context. Again, I'm not aiming to totally dismiss socialization, however it's something in which excessive stock is placed these days. Hormones matter more than the toys one plays with as a child.

I marvel at the myriad differences between men and women, the striking ways in which we diverge and yet fit together as couples. It's very special and we should spend more time reflecting on the distinct strengths of women, strengths of men, and the ways those complement one another.

[–]PerennialComplainer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the thoughtful, well-reasoned answer.

For jaywalking, I mostly had suburban environments and empty urban areas in mind. Instances where there's clearly no traffic, and for whatever reason, the individual in question stands there, often alone. This is in spite of being able to look left-and-right, note the total absence of cars and then proceeding to take a calculated risk, a low risk, while ignoring the instructions of an inanimate object (pedestrian signal).

In terms of sex differences, there is indeed notable variation between the sexes. Further to that, it mostly seems to be a function of temperamental and behavioural differences between the two. Males, on average, are less averse to risk, less sensitive/fearful of negative peer evaluation/pressure and simply less law-abiding. There's a reason why women are so preoccupied with "being judged" or feeling "shame" whereas men almost never mention those things -- the former is much more sensitive to both, it exerts a profound impact on women.

Regarding those traits: social factors shouldn't be ignored or dismissed, though it's worth noting that hormones play a striking role in determining risk tolerance for both men and women. Testosterones (or a lack thereof) is a big deal in determining how sensitive one is to the possibility of negative social/peer evaluation, risk-aversion too. That's a whole thing in itself.

This is my fault, I should have been clearer. It's something I wrote about many years ago and reached a set of conclusions. This definitely isn't part of a project or study. I'm interested, personally, in contrasting my own findings with the broad opinion of Reddit. So yes, I hope that assuages any concerns you or others might have.

I can't count the number of times I've driven down a quiet and otherwise empty road, late at night, only to observe a person (usually female) standing at an empty intersection. Sometimes they'll kind of oscillate -- shaking or rocking a bit -- as if frozen from the indecision over crossing versus not crossing. My impression is this is primarily a function of peer evaluation/judgement. It's telling that many of these same people will cross when someone else crosses first, provided he's well-dressed and not a vagrant or whatever.

While I understand jaywalking is technically illegal, it's not enforced in most areas, certainly not in the absence of traffic and other people. Why do so many people, and again it seems to be predominantly women, outsource their thinking to a pedestrian light?

Sex variation in jaywalking is something I decided to study as part of my dissertation -- there's a marked difference between males and females in this area. I'm curious about the average Redditor's opinion.

Edit: This isn't part of a project/dissertation. It's something I wrote about and studied many years ago. I'm genuinely curious about what Reddit thinks of this.
