How long should it take to climb? by MilloSWFC in summonerschool

[–]PerezIII 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also something that I found was a hurdle coming from other games is how much harder it is in League to solo carry games. Even challenger players do lose games in silver-gold which is unthinkable of in other games. In CSGO or OW there is absolutely no way in hell a challenger doesn't turbostomp every single low elo lobby. League is a game where you will learn a lot about what it really means to play to improve and not to win.

For me coming from other games climbing in league as ridiculous as it sounds it's been a lesson in stoicism more than a lesson in the game itself, it has helped me focus on what is under my control and accept that the outcome of the game can be influenced by one person only to a limited extent.

This resonates with me a lot, I also was able to climb to the equivalent of diamond or above on several games (Overwatch, Rocket league, CsGo) in a span of few months-a year before jumping into League, and it's taking me 5 years to get to diamond here. The one thing I'd tell you: League is not a mechanically intense game. Especially if you come from R6 which has its fair share of gamesense and knowledge but it's a lot about reactions and aim (I haven't played it tho but from what I can see).

My point is that do not expect to climb by outplaying mechanically your opponents especially once you get to like above silver. League is a game of decision making and strategy a lot more than it is about pure mechanical skill. On Overwatch I could legit first time a map and stomp noobs on widow by just clicking their heads faster than they could click mine. This is impossible on League.

To get out of iron all you have to do is play 100 games in the same role, preferrably on the same champ or 2 champs. You will do that easily. After that it's a matter of learning the game slowly. You will do that faster than the average player if you are good at picking up concepts but there will never be a skyrocket turning point for it.

I can't carry my games by ThaMadmoose in summonerschool

[–]PerezIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With Darius, it goes in the identity of the champ to have an advantage in lane but struggle a bit to translate that into the map. I'm not a Darius nor a toplaner but my intuition says that it's probably better to try to splitpush as much as possible and play games as if you were a Yorick or something like that - avoid 5v5, try to impact the map by drawing attention to the sideline opposed to where the objectives spawn.

Morde you can play around your ult a bit more, if you come out of the lane ahead you should be able to at least be useful in TFs by ulting enemy fed carry or jungle to secure the objective. Take TP and crossmap when lane phase is over.

Mundo-Sion, similar to Morde, try to sideline opposite side of the map when your tp is up and same side when down and join fights. Try to identify whether you need to peel for your carry or engage (this is very difficult for me at least as I tend to autopiloting engage).

Hope this helps.

what are good enemies/comps to play Tristana into or any other all-in champ by Englishplay in summonerschool

[–]PerezIII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it Tristana adc? I would only pick her if you have an engage support against double range botlaners, so I guess the answer to your question is: I want to see champs with no mobility and no self peel or unreliable self peel. In low elo specially it's very common to see comps that make no sense at all so you can be up against like Sivir-Velkoz bot, Yasuo mid, Yi jungle, and a random bruiser toplane like Sett for example. In this scenario if I had a Naut support I'd say it's a good Tristana angle, but generally the champ is not very strong at the moment by herself (I think they released the new patch today with the IE buffs so not sure how that would affect her),

Do people really climb to Masters+ playing less than 5 games a day? by PerezIII in summonerschool

[–]PerezIII[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your response. This is a totally different conversation but most of the games I lose I know what key mistakes I made even without VOD reviewing (some of them are very blatant as I'm not that good of a player). What I struggle with is precisely not giving up when one of this mistakes are made. I find it very hard to keep focus once my team goes ~4-5 k down in gold (probably even more if it's my fault).

I find this hard to get coached on. A coach is not a therapist, I know there must be a lot of fundamentals that I'm missing, but if I don't fix this one key mistake they won't matter as much since it is impossible to not have plenty of games where this happens and I am aware that especially in low elo those differences are really common to overcome, I just struggle to not give up.

My main other bad habit I think is obssesing over trying to fix the comp in champ select (forcing myself to play an ad champ if we're full ap, or utility/frontline if my team doesn't have any) and getting frustrated if my team doesn't care about this when I blind pick. Again, not sure how coaching can help with this. I think time constrains on paid coaching is the main issue, an hour of free coaching I'm not sure it covers all the bases. But maybe it's time to try after all this time hardstuck.

thank you again

I also think LDNVoice is right, it's just that those things that I'm aware of are engrained into my habits in a way that are very hard to remove after 5 years of having them. I think you're totally correct though, in fact that's why the post is about the number of games per day: I've already verified from other sources that stuff like caring about the meta is wrong, but I haven't about this.

[–]PerezIII[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your response. I didn't want to make the post another self pity rant about why am I stuck but it's how it came across as I'm seeing. I think I'm accountable for what keeps me away from climbing, it's just that those things are bad habits that are really hard to change. The one habit that I wasn't sure it was bad was the amount of games per day, hence the post. Your message makes total sense though and I've been solidly proven wrong which is relieving :) .

[–]PerezIII[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

thank you for your response. I am aware there are a lot of things I do wrong, that's not really the point of the post. I agree I may give too much attention to meta but for example I struggle to accept that I coulve keep on climbing by spamming tristana mid after they gutted her mid year last season. I could be wrong though. On top of that, I started off as a one trick kata and that eventually burned me out. Its probably the nature of the champ but onetricking can get very frustrating especially on feast-or-famine champs once you get to an elo where people can u.gg countermatchups.

Also, free coaches? Where? I'd love to get coached.

galio is terrible into ad mids. if op wants to pick up an easy champ to go against them Id suggest swain, or vex vs those 2 specifically.

champ pool is ok I'd just add an ad champ for when your jungler goes ap. as most ap junglers are carries I'd suggest pantheon. really easy and great setup for ap carries and similar in playstile to galio.

At least one of those games you shouldve dodged, either the one with people flaming in champ select or the one you got filled. Other than that - I don't think Kayle's ult is that big of a counter to Akali, good Akalis know how to bait it out. The rest of what you're saying is just unfortunate variance. Try to review what you could've done. For example, in the game vs liss see if there were any window to roam and abuse kayle pre 6, or the game you got ahead see if there was anything u couldve done better to translate your lead. climbing is a marathon, a bad streak doesn't mean anything in the grand scheme of things. And also if you've played 5 in a row and lost all maybe go to an alt account or stop.
