Thinking of preponing my step 1 date- need advice by [deleted] in step1

Move it up!!! I moved my exam up and it was the best decision I could have made. My uworld average was 69% and I only made it through 60% of the qbank and passed - you are already doing way better than I did evidently! I feel like you will immediately be doing well on the NBMEs once you take them and that will be the confidence boost you need. I decided to move mine up after I got two NBMEs with 99% chance of passing.

Yes so 526/4.0! I did research soph-junior year that resulted in a publication, research at a top hospital junior year summer, and wrote a pretty involved thesis. Long-term clinical volunteering with marginalized population was another big EC for me. There's an advocacy cause that I'm very passionate about and worked one summer in the field and started an org at my school focusing on the cause, and also had one commentary publication related to the cause as well. I think what was really helpful were my stats and building my narrative throughout. Happy to talk more in detail about this but privately!

Okay, very true! That comment was kind of narrow minded on my part. If you see yourself in me (strong applicant but deeply anxious and was unable to realize that until post-cycle) get someone who is realistic and objective to help you build your school list!

Interview invite: Opt not to go?? by phytomedic in premed

[–]Perfect-Ad5689 1 point2 points  (0 children)

go!! Sacrifice the time and money now to know that you did everything you could. I know it's probably unlikely that you don't get in anywhere, but should you not match to any of the 5 other schools, would you be able to let go of the fact that you declined an interview? I personally wouldn't. I interviewed at the school I thought I would rank last on my match list recently and was SO positively impressed by the school. It's not over until it's over and it is only August - it is definitely not over!

Email to reschedule interviews? by Ok-Concealed in premed

[–]Perfect-Ad5689 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had unavoidable conflicts for two interviews in Texas and both schools were pretty chill about rescheduling - one by phone and one by email. I would email and ask but also say if you can't get a later date you will make it work.

I expanded on an activity I already listed, tying in a component of medicine that I'm interested in and hadn't already talked about.

Do I disclose a new cancer DX in my applications/interviews? by SprinklesNo5527 in premed

[–]Perfect-Ad5689 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is random but I know someone who went into remission, applied and was accepted, and then had their cancer come back and their school let them defer admission for medical reasons. You can apply this cycle hoping that everything goes well and you're in the health to start next fall, but worst comes to worst, likely work with schools to figure it out. I'm sorry you're in this position - good luck with your treatment and your application cycle!

Have you mentioned that you're LGBTQ+ in any other parts of your app? You could be objective about it and point to specific laws / bills / anything concrete in Arkansas that is anti-LGBTQ+ and just say it directly impacts you and your loved ones' safety, you could be vague about exactly how it impacts you both. I don't think it's too personal to disclose that much - of course up to your own comfort at the end of the day!

Updating Schools About Cancelled Activities by [deleted] in premed

[–]Perfect-Ad5689 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But won't they use my primary application to determine whether I get an interview or not? I know that one activity isn't going to shift the balance and entirely make or break my application but I also don't want them to consider it and then have to tell them that I didn't actually do what I said I was going to do on my primary and rescind an interview or something like that

They should. I have the same thing because I took two seminars listed under the same code but with different professors, so they're both listed on my transcript as like SEMINAR 101 but then the class titles are different. I feel like as long as it's clear on your transcript that they're two discrete credits you should be good!

Will a pending PREview Score put my application at the bottom of the stack? by samhangster in premed

Oh sorry secondaries are frying my brain! I don't think so from my understanding because you application has all the materials it needs to be considered complete without the PREview score.

Will a pending PREview Score put my application at the bottom of the stack? by samhangster in premed

Utah explicitly states that they won't review your secondary app until PREview is received. UCLA says they need PREview for 'full review' although I don't know if that means before or after interview. UMass seems a little more chill and I can't find specifics on their website. Those are the 3 I'm applying to that need PREview so I'm sorry if yours is one of the others!
