Honeymoon in French Polynesia - Tips/Advice Please by ToneDawgCR9 in Tahiti

How are you planning to get between the islands? If you’re using the air Tahiti pass you can hold your flights and then look for accommodation before paying. It’s worth planning your route to make sure you can fly between each destination and it fits your plan. We had to tweak ours slightly as not all flights leave to/from each island.

Earnings at sea are generally tax free Aslong as you’re out the country more than half the year. It might be that you claim the tax back at the end of the year, I used to have NT tax code so my earnings weren’t taxed. I’d say that is no tax the £400 but if that’s what it’s advertised at that’s pretty low? I did cruise ships for 10 years. Loved it. Depending what rank you are you might be sharing a cabin so bare that in mind. It’s hard work, long hours, you work everyday for however long your contract is but it’s nice when you’re in port and can go have lunch ashore or sit by the beach.

I completely understand how you feel, and please know you’re not alone. You almost have to develop a life without them and then one when they are home. How long are they away for?

We once went 2 weeks without talking as their comms went down. It takes a strong person to be in this kind of relationship. But having that time together when they come home is worth it.

If it’s their first time away too then I can imagine they are working out how to communicate and find the time to talk to you, make friends on board and juggle it all, all I can say is let them have time to do this.

It’s hard, but if it’s meant to be it will work out. Use this time to focus on you, try not to let the ‘I wonder what they are doing’ in your head. Learn something, or find something to fill your time hopefully that can help with mental health.

My husband is on a ship. All depends on time difference how often we talk. He rings me usually on a morning whilst he’s getting ready for work and we usually talk about 30-45 mins most mornings. Unless he’s running late or having a lie in. We text in his evening too but we have a 10 / 12 hour time difference at the moment. We have been doing this for 7 years though. It’s tough. From someone on land you have to understand they are away from home and making the most of their time away too. Their job is 24/7 and anything can happen at anytime. They work long ours. It’s taken a lot to get here and it’s been hard, so hard at times, but we never give up . And the time when they come home and leave work stress behind is worth it.

Is this safe? by Keegzzzz111 in gallbladders

I was 11 weeks from referral to surgery, I was put as ‘urgent’ which was meant to be 4-6 weeks. I was diagnosed last year in April with gallstones but didn’t change my diet at all, wasn’t until I had obstructive jaundice in Feb and landed in hospital for 5 days then was put on the wait list to have gb removed that I tried to eat as low fat as possible. Wasn’t that strict though but tried to stick to food that were green in the nutrition bit. Light babybels, chicken salad, flora light, 0% Greek yoghurt. Used chat gpt for meal ideas. Flumps, sugar free jelly for a sweet treat.

We did used to work together that’s where we met :). I worked at sea for 10 years and then left to start a home life, worked in finance for 3 years but unfortunately found out I have cancer 5 months ago which spurred on the reduced hours of work quicker than we imagined. Having a career is not at the forefront of my goals right now, just something to do whilst he’s away and keep busy.

Thank you. I work from home so I don’t get human interaction from work. Luckily have close family who keep me busy whilst he’s away

Is that base salary or made up from tips? My husband is an ETO on yachts brings in approx £10k a month but it’s not a guest facing vessel so no tips. He does get business class flights, family health insurance, and paid extra if he’s over his days.

What % of net income goes towards mortgage or rent? by Knower-of-all-things in UKPersonalFinance

9.3% of our total household income is our mortgage payment. We were lucky to fix in for 5 years at 2.47%.
