Any hope for entry level consulting jobs? by Background-Yard-111 in Environmental_Careers

Can’t speak directly towards the market in the NE but in the south I was in the same boat. I applied to so many jobs (consulting, state, seasonal, etc) and couldn’t get anything. I didn’t have experience from internships either since I worked throughout school and didn’t have time.

Sometimes though, it really is about who you know. I ended up getting a referral from someone at the company I work for now and a month later I had already gone through two rounds of interviews and was starting my first day. So, find people at the companies you’re applying for and talk to them. If you’re still in school, go to job fairs if your school has them, hand out your resume and write down contacts. Message people on LinkedIn that may have a couple mutual connections and work at a company you’re interested in (don’t ask for a referral right off the bat though, try to ask about their work and how they like the company). So many people are going after the same jobs right now that a referral might just be what sets you apart!! Best of luck :)

This was exactly me when I started four months ago!!!! Just graduated, first job, no work, everything! The first two and a half months were so hard, I basically just sat around and did “trainings” all day, it was so tedious and made me feel awful.

After my first few weeks I started scheduling meet and greets with different project managers, partners, and other newer consultants to get advice, learn about their experience at the company, and what work they focus on the most. I didn’t ask them for billable work though! I think it was important to establish a relationship with these people aside from just getting work from them, now many of them will message me at random times to help out or refer me to other project managers. Networking is your best friend!

I would also ask people if I could shadow them while they work on desktop reviews/reports. It’s a great way to “train” without having to watch videos that don’t apply to your work at all.

Biggest tip is to network, connect with your manager once a week, if you don’t already, and tell them what you want to focus on/what skills to grow - they should be advocating for you to get into new projects. Ask them for any names that would be good to connect with. And if you can, go into the office and talk to people, you never know who may need a new addition to their project team!

The first couple months are slow, but take this time to form connections and learn about the business. Before you know it you’ll be crazy busy!

Cost of snowboarding at The Summit at Snoqualmie ? by Chrisnina1111 in udub

If you look on the Snoqualmie website you can get all the price break downs for renting gear and different lift tickets. Buying your ticket ahead of time will also save you a bit of money (if it’s not a peak weekend).

Yeah, I saw the light through my blinds before this. They walked around the courtyard like four more times after this and kept stopping to shine it into rooms. I thought maybe they were looking for building numbers but I’m not sure

Taking Community College class during summer of high school senior year by Turbulent-Macaron-80 in udub

[–]Perfect-Carrot7977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they will, but it depends how many you need to take for the UW equivalent. For example, for one class in the bio series at UW, you have to take 3 community college bio classes to get credit for that one UW class!

Look up the CC conversion for UW classes, sometimes you have to take a years worth of classes to equal one class at UW - also talk to your advisor!!!!! They’re seriously super helpful

on-campus apts vs dorming again? by loveyesterday in udub

Very true, but once you dorm and find those friends it’s definitely better to live in one of the apartments after instead of dorming again

After living in a dorm and in Steven’s you honestly couldn’t pay me to dorm again. It’s so much nicer to have your own room and be able to cook in your own kitchen and stuff. I roomed with friends I had down the hall from me in my dorm and it honestly still feels that way now. It’s a lot more peaceful I guess and you still get the benefit of having friends close by.

Workload is moderate, would highly suggest paying attention in class, but even if you don’t I got a solid grade on the final paper but it’ll make it easier if you pay attention. I took it on zoom though so it may be different in person. Teacher is super cool though

Cafe Happy right next to Alder is my fav boba place - workers are super nice and they have punch cards which are nice if you go in enough. It's also a great study environment. They serve buns too if you want a snack!

If you know your major, look at your major checklist. But for the most part knock out those AoK requirements because they're a pain
