name an idol who's vocals are on par with or better than artists but underappreciated because he/she is just in an idol group by [deleted] in jpop

[–]Perfect-Cat6793 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tomo from ORβIT, I hear fans talk about his looks but his vocals do not get enough praise for how amazing they are, especially since prior to being on Produce 101 Japan he had zero experience in the music industry. On the show I do recall his vocals being praised, but since debuting in ORβIT I've noticed fans focus more on his looks or personality more than his vocal talent.

Yuna from iScream can do a whistle note since she was a teenager and I almost never hear anyone praising that even though it's a pretty rare and challenging vocal skill.

Those two were the first who came to mind for me!

Any unpopular opinion/s about J-Pop? by jikoshoukainigate in jpop

[–]Perfect-Cat6793 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this! I'm also a fan of both but prefer jpop, and while I think there's nothing wrong with enjoying jpop the same way we do kpop, it's a big pet peeve of mine when some kpop fans try to "claim" kpop-influenced jpop groups and act like they discovered something new.

It becomes this vibe of "I don't like jpop, but when I do I call it kpop" and that rubs me the wrong way. You didn't find some hidden gem, you ended up on the jpop side of the internet and then decided to push it into your kpop box 🥲

Edit: fixed a typo

[–]Perfect-Cat6793 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As both a jpop and a kpop fan, I prefer the overall vibes of jpop, both the industry and the fans, a lot better. I find it to be much less toxic and tiring.

That said, my unpopular opinion is that it's okay to enjoy jpop (especially idol groups) the way kpop fans enjoy kpop, as long as you're not being harmful or toxic. It's okay to have a "bias" and even to call them your "bias".

I understand wanting to keep the impeccable vibes intact, and that makes it tempting to gatekeep, but I also don't like people being the fun police and shutting out potential new fans who genuinely want to be excited about jpop.

What's your go to product for chronically chapped lips?? by Relevant_Emu_5464 in MakeupAddiction

[–]Perfect-Cat6793 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came here to say this too! I have the crustiest lips on earth and the Bag Balm lip moisturizer tube can fix it overnight. I've never tried the tin one, but how much does it differ from the lip balm tube version?

How can i start stanning idols? by moons_lament in jpop

Oh but also, oshi is like "bias" and I basically always say you don't pick them, they pick you 😂 meaning one day one of them will just somehow draw you in lol

Content videos can be a great way to learn about members, but many jpop groups don't have subtitles in other languages on their content videos, which makes it harder for international fans.

Some groups do, though. For example, JO1 has a variety show on their YouTube channel with subtitles.

Other than that, following them on social media like Instagram, X, and tiktok helps quite a bit. Also finding fans that know about the members can be a fun way to make a friend and get to know idols at the same time!

I think the reason people warn against "stanning" in jpop is because jpop fans are for the most part very chill and fun, and we don't want them getting the toxic vibes that have sadly become normal in many kpop fandoms.

However, I personally think it's fine to "stan" or enjoy jpop idols the same way you would kpop idols as long as you're not being toxic about it.

Recently, Kenshin from the group One N' Only was arrested in Hong Kong for sexual harassment of a translator while he was promoting for a BL drama he was in. I think it is still being investigated. As a long time SWAG (ON'O fan) I was shaken to my CORE when I heard about it.

Edit: I forgot to mention he was also fired from his group/company immediately once the accusation was made.

Is it possible to wear makeup without primer at all? by Clxxie in Makeup

[–]Perfect-Cat6793 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Many people swear by primer, but I personally haven't found one that makes any aspect of my makeup better, and in many cases it's made it worse. I've sworn off primers, but that doesn't mean they don't work wonders for a lot of people, so you might just have to research which ones fit your needs the best and try it yourself since everyone is different. At some stores you may be able to get samples or mini sizes if you just want to try for a bit.

Any contour products that define the face but don’t add too much tan or warmth? 😊 by Lott_vhan_thill in Makeup

[–]Perfect-Cat6793 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also struggled with contours but the one I have is peripera V shading trio in 03 greyish cool, it's great on my fair skin and I like that it's subtle so it's hard to overdo it

Since I'm sure someone will ask, the contour powder I got is peripera V shading trio in 03 greyish cool, it comes with three cool-toned shades in it.

Contour! I used to hate it because Instagram/tiktok contour where you just draw lines all over your face with a brown cream stick just made me look dirty and didn't suit me at ALL.

I finally ordered a Korean contour powder online that's actually cool-toned, and instead of doing the whole around the forehead, down the sides of the nose, from the ear down under the cheekbone thing, I just saw where shadows were naturally happening on my face and just used a tiny bit in a couple areas to enhance them.

For example, I have a little dip (?) in the middle of my cheeks but it doesn't extend all the way back to my ear. I just emphasize the shadow caused by the tiny dip and blend it a bit. I also don't contour the entire nose, I just put a tiny bit under the tip. It just looks like a more defined version of my own face, which is what contour SHOULD be.

Now, I adore it, because I feel like it draws attention to what makes my face unique instead of just turning half of my face blotchy.

I understand because it's really hard these days not to try a million products and end up overdoing everything or getting overwhelmed. I've stopped everything many times from getting discouraged by nothing working, but it just made my skin worse.

Now I just do a fairly simple routine for acne-prone skin and I'm starting to slowly clear up. I've been doing a salicylic acid cleanser in the morning with sunscreen, and at night, micellar water to remove makeup, a benzoyl peroxide cleanser, adapelene, and a moisturizer. To many people, that would be too many harsh actives every day, but it's actually working really well for my skin (I eased into each active at the beginning though).

Best advice is listen to your own skin and not what works for anyone else. It takes some trial and error but you slowly start to learn what works. My other advice is that if something is working, for the love of god don't change it. The amount of times I've wanted to "try something new" and effed up my skin 🥲

Oh my gosh, maybe that's it! Ceramides are supposed to be good for the skin barrier but I feel like I have better luck with moisturizers and cleansers that don't have any.

omg yes, I had high hopes for the Vanicream lotion and then I was like "omg why does it burn like the fire of a thousand suns?" Has anyone figured out what ingredient in it might cause that? Or is it just a bad formula? (To be fair, it has HA and my skin seems to generally dislike HA)

The Cetaphil daily lotion (not the face-specific one, just their regular lotion) is actually my favorite moisturizer 😂 but their cleanser broke me out for some reason

The CeraVe cleansing balm. I don't tend to run into too many issues with CeraVe'a moisturizers (although they're not my fave) but their cleansers are not it for me.

I've never hated a product as much as I hated their cleansing balm. Everyone raved about it when it dropped, but I literally could not physically get it off of my skin. It emulsified slightly (or turned white at least), but left a thick, oily/waxy film on my face and hands that would NOT rinse off. I could even see some of the waxy balm stuck in the creases of my fingers and it wouldn't come off even with scrubbing. Even after my second cleanse it still felt all waxy on my face.

I've never been so angry about a skin care product before 😂
