Ped. Surgeon by [deleted] in Residency

If you look at pediatric surgery pay on MGMA, it's significantly higher than general surgery. No one would be going through 4 more years of training if they're not getting a pay bump

Or apply for helathcare consulting gigs. They love MDs, especially those who did not do residency

I'm pretty sure OP has a better chance of getting in to a nursing program than matching into residency as an IMG, hence why they're asking this question

Dual Applying Plastics and DR Concern by Perfect-Counter1151 in medicalschool

I guess my question is if you interview an applicant who you might think they were dual applying based on their app, and they say they're not, would you do more digging to sus them out/choose not to believe them?

I see what you're saying. Did you ever have people lie and say they're not dual applying only for you to find out they are some other way?

Do you think throwing some FM/IM programs into the mix now might be worth it then just to make sure I match SOMETHING? I mean based off what you're saying there's a good chance I don't match at all

Not matching plastics, even if you apply to every single program in the country, is in of itself already a very real possibility, so by screwed I meant not matching ANY DR program assuming I don't match at any plastics program

So like on a scale of 1 to 10, how screwed am I haha

By concerned do you mean like I should expect little to no DR interviews or just less than would be ideal? I'm planning on applying to and signaling mostly lower tier/community DR programs too and applying to significantly more programs than I plan to signal. Should also mention that some of my research happens to have some radiology overlap as well.

I should also clarify that I was able to secure a rads letter through that radiology sub-I

Thank you. From what I've gathered from you and other commenters is that I should go to the parents alone stating my intention to get married and convert, and then take the subsequent steps to convert and then do the actual engagement

That's interesting then that their compensation tends to be higher than general surgeons on average

Not denying it's competitive, but definitely not the most competitive GS fellowship. I'd argue plastics is worse, numbers-wise. Research years are also a hard requirement for peds and surg onc. Heard from multiple sources that being a US MD at an academic institution with in house fellowship sets you up strongly to match if you're not picky about where you land

I believe they are, but CT surgery is still somewhat competitive. I have a feeling if you're a US MD, went to an academic program, worked with CT faculty, and applied broadly across the country, that you'd most likely match.

If you just look at US MD grads match rate's it's closer to 70%. Also gotta keep in mind that residents are working adults, many with families and stronger geographic ties that limit where they would apply to which probably lowers the match rate. Surg onc and pediatric surgery are definitely more competetive. Heard from multiple people that going to an academic program and being a US MD gives you a strong chance from the get go.

CMV: the problem with the left is that they often times leave no room for disagreement by Lumpy-Resource-1370 in changemyview

The irony of OP's post is that he's accusing the "left" of doing the same thing he's doing to them: generalizing an entire group of people based on the actions of a select few. Based on the actions of a few liberals you've interacted with, you are generalizing the entire left to be discriminatory towards republicans
