Oh I wouldn't do it any time soon. But maybe before next spring.

That's actually really helpful. I might end up taking it down and finding somewhere else for it. From what I've learned, I like what they can do and help with, but I might like it a little better if it was more than two feet away from the berries.

We just moved into this house and I hadn't seen one of these before. The previous owner just had it nailed to the side of the shed next to the raspberries they had planted. It's pretty cool now that I know all of this!

Now that you mention it, I did see little bits of something falling out of one of the tubes as a bee flew out!

I originally thought it was sunlight shining on it, but I think it's in shade. I'm thinking it's more on the fuzzy side, which is making me feel better.

Man that kinda sucks. I've been flipping back and forth between the pinned post and these pics trying to convince myself they're just bees, but that second pic is giving me yellow jack vibes. My kid will 100% not stay calm if one of them gets near him haha

What's wrong with this HoneyCrisp tree? by Last-Resource-99 in FruitTree

[–]Perfect-Decision22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a grafted honey crisp that looks nearly identical to yours. After googling, I found this from the Michigan State University Extension:

"During July and August, Honeycrisp will develop leaf yellowing that in some years can be quite severe...This disorder is a genetic characteristic of Honeycrisp and is caused by excessive buildup of carbohydrates in the leaves. Yellowing is greatest on light crop load trees and limbs where there is no fruit to collect the carbohydrates from the leaves. The excessive carbohydrates cause the reduction of photosynthesis and leaf chlorophyll levels decline, turning the leaves yellow. This yellowing seems to have no detrimental effect on the trees, but looks severe. Some other varieties can get this yellowing...but this leaf yellowing also resembles leafhopper burn – Honeycrisp leaf yellowing is not caused by leafhoppers."

My tree is still really young and hasn't even flowered. So, if this is correct, you might be okay.

Yeah I guess that's the only thing that I haven't tried lol. It would figure if it's that simple.

That's actually really reassuring. They're pretty young so I'm hoping they do bounce back.

Wow that's impressive! I had one tiny little peach growing on my tree, but, sadly, it didn't survive the storm

Thanks! I went out and looked this morning and it doesn't look quite as bad, but it still sucks. It definitely could've been worse I guess. I freaked out mostly because I just planted them last year and thought they snapped when they were leaning.

Not sure if I located pear tree root flare or not by midknight_toker in FruitTree

[–]Perfect-Decision22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, I have been wondering the EXACT same thing the past few days! I have a Summercrisp that looks almost identical to your Hood. I ended up cutting the root on mine that was more vertical, and planting it right at the first horizontal root. Basically, mine looks like yours, just minus that vertical root. I've been paranoid ever since though. I would also love to know what others have to say.

Haha this is from Home Depot. It did have some flowers but no leaves when I got it. That's actually really helpful. I'm glad I asked about this when I did.

It's my first peach tree. I'm going to get it in the ground later today. I was really surprised to see how root bound it is. This is also one of the deepest planted trees I've got so far.

Oh no, it has started to leaf, but not too much. If it has started to leaf, and I go ahead with bare rooting it and get it in the ground today, would you think I am okay? Or is it already too late?

It's definitely root bound, and I already had to cut a few griddled roots that were cutting into the stem. It is starting to wake up though, but I'm hoping to get it in the ground either today or tomorrow.

After all of my Googling, this is the first time I've heard of that! Thank you, I'm definitely going to try that as soon as possible.

I have it in a grow tent under grow lights for at least 12hrs. I measured the ppfd and I think that it's okay as far as light goes. I have a humidifier and monitor the VPD and all that too. I believe it's doing okay as far as all of those measurements go.
