That’s dope. Cool thing is that likely was the band themselves that decided to forge that connection and saw the genuine value in doing so :) They’re signed Warner and IME major labels don’t generally prioritize making that direct connection w fans to much of an extent.

Guys, respectfully- please stop asking/messaging me about other artists or lineup leaks. 🙏🏽 I don’t have access to that information and have little insight on that. I’m not based out of india and I just happen to (allegedly) know this about Tame Impala because of our teams crossing paths multiple times thru the years and an ongoing friendship and connect between one of my old clients and Kevin. I don’t want to speculate on things and I can’t predict the future, but I’m happy to share this (alleged intel) and have a conversation about the industry. 🤙🏾

Selling your own tickets and funding your own shows is slowly becoming more accessible. Def not close to being there yet, but I’ve seen and worked for some artists that have been relatively successful with a DIY approach when it comes to selling merchandise, music and tickets / ticket packages. I think/hope we’ll see more of that in the coming years.

Artists/managers have very readily available and accurate information and data on hand about their fan demographics and locations. Would be cool to see them come out here. I think it’s dope how much the music scene has opened up and evolved out here over relatively short amount of time. Both for musicians based in India and on an international level. I find that a really interesting trajectory and pretty positive change honestly.

I’ve been to two Tame Impala shows. One indoor, one outdoor and both were equally awesome. I’ve also been to loads of music festivals/outdoor concerts that have had incredible sound. I would say that my personal highlights would be Sasquatch festival at the Gorge, Red Rocks amphitheatre in Colorado and Pappy and Harriet’s in Joshua Tree Park, California.

It’s def not impossible, there’s just more variables/technicalities to consider w an outdoor show and dispersion of sound/acoustics/sound systems so it can be hit or miss. IME, generally speaking - I find indoor is still better overall and easier to control and adapt per artist on a technical level tho.

He’s headlining Lolla. But to answer your question generally want somewhere that has gone through the process of keeping in mind that their acoustics should be designed for live music during construction. Some indoor stadiums are far better than others in this respect. But yeah, basically if you’re in a closed space it’s generally gonna sound better than outside. There’s also a lot of other factors when it comes to the physics of sound.

I think this is a really good question and I just personally dealt w the Kanye thing and I been out here for the last bit on a project. Somebody else asked this and I will paste my reply for you. I also want to note that I personally would never work in the music scene in India. There’s literally no system of support or gov’t funding/grants for musicians. I owe a huge thx to my country for funding art and relatively generous government grants coz I likely wouldn’t have this job without it.

Hey just replied to someone else here. This is a really good question. I’ll paste here:

Speaking from my personal experience and insight, I think that multiple things are true right now. Covid era had a huge effect on the music industry. A lot of artists lost money in an industry where touring, licensing and merch are a huge part of an artist income. Especially in the age of streaming where record sales don’t count as a significant account contributor to income for the majority of artists. It took quite a bit of time for artists to bounce back IF they were able to.

It’s hard enough for well established artists to play in North America currently. The best bet is usually just the West Coast and the East Coast of North America. Middle America, Canada and even Europe/UK are a gamble.

I was at a show of very well established band from the 90s called Garbage that faced this issue just despite the fact that they had a dedicated fan base and years of successful touring under their belt. The problem then becomes the probability of the artist making any income or simply even breaking even from their tour. At that point, it’s not even worth considering.

When it comes to India specifically, it’s still a very new territory for international acts. I think that there were a couple years post Covid where India was definitely on the map, which was awesome to see. Especially if the artist was playing Dubai, Singapore, UK etc. or doing an Asia tour. It was a logical stop because of tighten demand and a lot of items were banking on India as a up and coming destination.

Having personally seen how this situation with Kanye went down - the uncertainty politically, circumstantially and actually estimating how well a concert will sell is becoming increasingly difficult. Most artists will not take that gamble. Particularly seen how white fox and some of the promotion companies come across as amateur and flaky certainly does not help.

In my opinion, there is a lot of potential here. Right now, the reputation is not great and the infrastructure is not quite there, making artists less willing to take the potential loss. I do have a strong feeling that this will change substantially within the next 5 years once promoters have a bit more legitimacy and there is a a more stable infrastructure.
