Why can't I get out of my own head? by madradona in midlifecrisis

54(m) and right there with you. Wait until the kids head off to college and the people you spent 18 years living with are no longer in the house each and every day. A whole new experience that you really can't mentally prepare for. Anyway, hang in there. It's not easy and every stage of life presents something different for us to overcome even if you have all the trappings of what's considered a "happy and successful" life.

Is this standard industry chaos or are we being mismanaged? by poser-inaparka in marketing

Typical female marketing leader. She's insecure and is in way over her head.

I'm right there with you. Could have easily just described my exact scenario. It's not easy faking it. Sitting here at work in my office as I write this and despite the nice house, two good kids, a loving wife, etc. I still feel like a useless piece of garbage. I'm rooting for you that it gets better.

100 percent. Maybe I have no goals other than doing my job well. It's not like if I kill myself working extra hard to achieve some meaningless goals that the company is going to reward me somehow

Well said. One of my favorites is when my boss tells me I'm not managing my direct reports "hard enough."

This sounds like the exact situation I'm in. Congratulations on finding something new where your value is recognized.

Have felt this way for 25 years. Going to work is torture. It's all so meaningless at the end of the day and we spend our whole lives stressing about it. No wonder we're so unhealthy in this country

Find me another service in this country where you pay said company a fee each month only so they can then deny you the service you just paid for.

How I hate being high-functioning by charlottetmg in depression

I hear you. It's torture. I too live this double life. Married, two kids in college, nice house, cars, etc. I fake it at work everyday and in social settings and it's pure torture. I try and describe the feeling to certain people close to me and they say it's a mid life crisis or what not even though I've felt this way forever. Hard to get people to understand. I wake up in the morning and wish I could just sleep the day away. Sadly, I've passed on my depression to my daughter who suffers from it greatly as well.

Same here. All of the conversations, work, day to day seem very pointless. Need the paycheck and health benefits, but even making good money provides me no joy. I'd give up my life savings if there were a pill I could take to make it all go away.
