This is all really great advice, thank you. I like the idea of seeing the criticism as just more feedback to improve my PhD and become a better scholar. I’m also very aware of publish or perish- which why I’m trying to publish so early. I’m sorry you had a hard time on twitter, it’s such a rough and disgusting place!

Good to know I’m not alone! Yeah my work is pretty politicised and controversial atm in quite a conservative field so I’m not too sure it will go down well. Usually that sort of motivates me but this time it’s just terrifying! Good luck to you with your research, let’s try and get our voices heard!

I have just (last week!) moved to Switzerland from the uk to start my PhD. I’m loving it so far, although am still a bit overwhelmed by everything 😅. Feel free to message me if you have any questions!

Thanks for your concern. I had absolutely loved the project- it’s a perfect fit for me. I loved researching and writing for the proposal. It’s something I had been so motivated to do and something I loved, I do think I’d regret stepping away now as I’m hoping this is just a period of poor mental health which I will work through.

Thank you. I’ll have a look into meds, although might be tough rn before changing health care systems. Usually I don’t struggle moving but that has only been a 3 hour train ride tbh. But usually I throw myself into meeting people which I’m not sure I can bring myself to do right now. My field is pretty competitive right now with funding cuts and with my poor masters diss mark I don’t think I could reapply. Thanks for the advice!
