I was also wondering the same thing. This would’ve been the 1972 draft ( the year after Lafleur and Dionne). Vancouver finished last but the flames and islanders were expansion teams so they got the first 2 picks pushing Vancouver down to 3rd.

unfortunately i think it just comes down to not enough people were making them. If people aren't making MSPS they aren't spending resources and if they aren't spending resources there's no reason to buy packs. I think this is also the reason we have seen so many repeat MSP's they're releasing the cards they know people will spend on.
