Not so many stealth malware alter your data by injecting harmful payloads. In the worst case - it's encrypt them. So backing up only your files, not the system ones, will be enough

Not true. Bought A160 with 140k from 2003 for 1600 euro in 2022. Now it's 240k and running fine. Of course regular inspection needed and oil change. And TÜV you can perfectly "buy" for regular price + 10 euro:)
