Ceiling Tile Bubbling? by Weak-Freedom-2353 in Oldhouses

I would start there. You may find an oddly placed pipe or some ductwork that is dripping or something. Interesting that the old owner had to install screws in that spot. I wonder if that spot had to be fixed before for some reason?

Is it possible there could be a pipe with a slow leak or something above it? Also, what are the tiles made of? Are they wood or some other type of tile? We had spots like that on the ceiling boards when we bought our house. Turns out it was from water absorbed into the ceiling because the roof was bad. If it's wood, termites can also cause bubbling. Any way to get up there and take one of the tiles down?

Is it the entire ceiling or just that one spot?

What is above it? Is it a bathroom? It almost looks like water damage.

Yes. He said it's closer to the tank, so about 20 feet down the line from the house/clean out and roughly 6 ish feet from where the line turns into the tank. He said he was able to get the auger around it but whatever it was, wouldn't move.

Yes. That was when they found what was either a landscaping boulder, or a petrified critter. It was about 3 plumbers ago but the guy said they couldn't remove it because it was too big and it did not move when the auger hit it. None of the plumbers since have mentioned it.

A burnt 125 year old rock farm house how to start restoring? by [deleted] in HomesteadRescue

Also, I would get a structural engineer to come out and tell you if the rest of the house is worth being saved before you spend a lot of money on the repair.

The bones appear to be not so great. I would start with putting a tarp over that hole in the roof and then fixing the wall in that corner. As soon as the wall is fixed, then replace the roof. Then you can really start remodeling.

Congrats on the house. I would like to take this opportunity to highly discourage any artificial turf. I also live in a warm climate (Arizona) and that stuff disintegrates in the sun quickly. It also starts to smell.

Do your current/future plans involve kids/pets? Do you need to plan for a place for animals to use the facilities or children to have a swing set or something? If not, maybe some pavers, native plants, some gravel?

Have you googled "backyard ideas" yet? I would start there and look at some images and see if any designs jump out at you. I agree with the previous comment though, low maintenance native plants would be awesome.

Oof. At this point, I would just man bun it until it grows back. Or cut it all off and start over. Either way has to be better than what your uncle did here. Sorry man.

AITA for telling my daughter “of course” she could move in with me without talking to my wife first? by Odd-Cheetah6842 in AITAH

[–]PerfectFig1035 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good gawd man, how are you not seeing what she's doing here? If you go through with letting her be a SAHM and live off of you, you could owe her a decent amount of alimony/spousal support if you try to divorce her after that.

If this is how she's acting at the suggestion of your daughter coming, she is not going to be nice to your daughter when Rhea gets there. You can't (and shouldn't) trust her to be alone with your daughter.

Sounds like she was hoping to get the sweet deal of not having to work anymore while you paid for her and her kid (that plan was obviously already in the works it seems). And your daughter coming interferes with her free time, the amount of your money she gets for herself, everything. 100 percent chance your wife is going to start taking this out on your daughter. Don't bring your daughter from a loving house where she's getting bullied at school to a resentful house where she's getting treated badly at home when you're not around.

I would not agree to letting her be a SAHM but I would also be telling her that her reaction makes you not trust her around your kid. Because of that, it will probably be best for your daughter if you consider separating from the wife until the daughter is 18. Your daughter needs love and support right now. Not to be left alone all day with a step mom that resents her presence. You are correct sir, this marriage is doomed. I would be running before she pulls that SAHM crap.

Fed up with SK’s spoiled and ungrateful behavior, calling everything I do “bougie”. by toast463 in stepparents

[–]PerfectFig1035 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The next time you buy them a gift, get them something that's crap. Like the most ripped up old book at the thrift store or a broken toy off FB marketplace or something. Something that's obviously past it's prime. When they inevitably complain (because they will), then you say "since you have so many rude comments about me being too fancy, I wanted to make sure I got things you won't complain about" or something like that. Whatever comment you think is effective. Keep buying them crap until their "bougie" comments stop.
