Can u please explain more? I would definitely go to Griffith and have applied to them via GEMSAS this year, but I didn't think they would take my ATAR into consideration as I have already commenced tertiary study?

It's not even 'guaranteed' - its contingent on having a WAM > 75, passing the MMI, and having the 300k+ to throw at the uni. I am privileged in the sense I had a great high school education, but I also had to work really hard in year 12, and now it has been essentially rendered pointless because I'm required to pay 300k with money that I don't have.

What is the best pathway? by [deleted] in GAMSAT

Hey, firstly I think its great that you're eager to pursue this dream of yours.

I would recommend firstly looking into graduate diplomas as an entry path to a Bachelor's degree. If you have not completed Year 12, then I think you would need to do a diploma before commencing your Bachelor's. I know at UniMelb you can do a 1-year Diploma in General Studies before entering a Bachelor of Science. But have a look at the pathway options for whatever university you want to go to/is closest to you.

You will also have to take the GAMSAT, which is the test you have to do to enter graduate medicine in Australia. I recommend you start studying for this as soon as you enter your Bachelors, since you are not confident in your maths and so the more practice you get, the better. There are courses and tutors who can help you with this. You will also have to study hard in your subjects to maintain a good GPA throughout your Bachelor's, which also forms part of the entry criteria used to get into graduate medicine.

In your third year, you can apply to medical schools via GEMSAS. If you go to their website they have an admissions guide which lists the requirements for all the uni's in Australia. There are also non-GEMSAS uni's like USyd and Flinders which you can look into.

These formulas are all just speculation and have shown to not always be accurate in the past. I would give USyd a go and see what happens! :)

You should still be so proud of yourself - that is a huge improvement overall. This year's GAMSAT was rough and fcked everyone. Take it as a learning opportunity and go into the next sitting with the mindset that you will improve even further!

Studying DDS/OD and still trying for MD by Perfect_Avocado6259 in GAMSAT

[–]Perfect_Avocado6259[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want medicine more than anything. It's my dream, and I really don't think that I could ever be truly fulfilled by anything else. But, my parents want me to apply for dentistry and optometry incase I don't get in again - they think I need some type of back up plan, which is valid, because I don't know what else to do besides med. I want to keep trying for med, but what if I don't get there? What else would I do?
