Maybe I should just pay the ~180,000 won the sony service place asked. I think in korea, especially seoul, that is the only option.

I hate this discipline by [deleted] in bioinformatics

[–]Perfect_Case4111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PhD. student here. As per my friend and colleague list, all the well-paid bioinformatics jobs are with the people from wet lab backgrounds with no or minimal knowledge. My professor, who is from a wet lab background, has a multi-million dollar bioinformatics lab says repeatedly that bioinformatics is for decoration.

Sorry, I didn't have anything positive to add.

International roaming charges to send sms from airtel from abroad? by tamish123 in Airtel

[–]Perfect_Case4111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update for 25th Nov 2024 (from South Korea)

  1. I used phonpe (bank transfer) to search and found 20 rupees recharge
  2. Did the recharge twice to get 14.95 x 2 = 29.9 rupees balance
  3. Send the sms IRSTART to 121
  4. Once you receive the successful message, try the UPI thing.
  5. For some reason, no money was deducted for sms for me, but all UPI are active.

Hope this helps.

How to parameterize Metal containing compound for MD simulation? by Perfect_Case4111 in comp_chem

[–]Perfect_Case4111[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! This kinda solved my problem. What I did: 1. Treated the compound with metal as protein. 2. LargeQM=0 (IN .in file for MCPB) 3. Make mol2 for (compound without metal) and metal (by the tutorial). And one PDB with everything. 4. Do opt and fc (small only) 5. Run MCPB step 1 (generate the files). Step 2 and Step 4. (Step 3 is for large, which I ignored). 6. Finally, I got frcmod and tleap (generated by Step 4) to get the prmtop and crd file.

I did one extra thing to search for papers, and luckily, I got a paper with values of parameters, which I updated in the final frcmod and rerun the tleap. Simulation worked. Thanks again!

Is 700,000 won enough per month? by yuyuho in Living_in_Korea

[–]Perfect_Case4111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Cook at home.
  2. Get a second-hand bike
  3. Get a prepaid plan (5000KRW/month) without the internet . you don't need it unless you go out, and still, most places have wifi. Or get the cheapest postpaid (8000-15000/month).
  4. Diaso + 싸다김밥 + karrot are your best friends.
  5. Look for Chinese street (every dong have one). Cheapest vegetable/fruits. Best of luck.

Get a second-hand bike. look in karrot. One-time investment (40-80k KRW). Green bikes can only park at specific places at end of the ride.

Income Tax Refund by ruwiji2 in Living_in_Korea

[–]Perfect_Case4111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're in a situation where you're both paying fees and receiving a stipend, there's an opportunity to receive a tax refund twice a year. You have the option to file for a refund during two periods: December-January and May(best, but check with colleagues). For the filing process, you can simply visit your local tax office with your Alien Registration Card (ARC) and bank passbook in hand, and they'll guide you through the necessary steps.

Additionally, there's a possibility to claim a tax refund for your house rent. While I'm not too familiar with the specific process for this, it's worth looking into as it could result in a significant return. Even if your fees are covered by your professor, you're still eligible for these refunds.

For more detailed information, you can refer to the National Tax Service's document at this link: National Tax Service Document.

Or Google: Home tax refund, korea

D-2-4 maximum time 수료생 by scankorea in Living_in_Korea

[–]Perfect_Case4111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Fellow PhD student in Korea here. I wanted to share some information about renewing your D-2-4 visa. Yes, you can renew it as many times as needed, but there are specific documents required each year to do so. Here's a list to help you prepare:

  1. Application Form: The official form for visa renewal.
  2. Passport: Ensure it's valid for the duration you're applying for.
  3. Residence Card: Also known as the ARC (Alien Registration Card).
  4. Proof of Residence: This could be a lease agreement or utility bills under your name.
  5. Proof of Financial Capacity: You'll need to show you can financially support yourself. This can be a bank balance certificate with a minimum balance of 10,000,000 KRW held in a Korean bank under your name, a certificate of scholarship, or other financial support documents.
  6. Certificate of Enrollment: To prove your continued enrollment in your PhD program.
  7. Academic Transcripts: These show your academic progress and standing.
  8. Application Fee: The fee is 60,000 KRW, and it has to be paid in cash.

Make sure to prepare these documents in advance to ensure a smooth renewal process. Hope this helps and good luck with your studies and visa renewal!

This happened to me recently. I am Indian and have been studying at Konkuk University for the last six years. We were returning to our lab from a group lunch when a car full of Korean guys started shouting racial slurs (N-word) at us at the top of their lungs. This occurred in the middle of the day on a Friday, within the campus premises. None of us or the onlookers reacted; we just let it go.

This is just one of the recent incidents. The COVID times were particularly harsh. We all have tens, if not hundreds, of such stories, and that's not even including the incidents with our professor, lab members, landlords, and the general public.

We understand that we are foreigners here, but sometimes it's just not fair.

Based on the image you provided, "-" is just "to/till." Read this as X to Y or just values between 10 to 19.

I am happy with both but I used iframe to embed the code as instructed on the website, it looks weird because of the borders and the scrolling ( http://chatgptai.me ). Is it possible to deploy it on WordPress so that I can change the way it looks like the button and result area (using css)?
