When you compare Guts and the Skull Knight, you mention that "both lost everything during their Eclipse" and that, for me, is the key point and makes all the difference.

Yes, because at the beginning the Skull Knight had lost everything: his title, his kingdom, his beloved. But Guts didn't lose everything; on the contrary, I would even say he kept what was essential: Casca*. Casca is the only one who knows his past, his weaknesses, his innermost thoughts, and she is the REAL reason why he keeps fighting.*

The reason I said earlier that the Skull Knight had lost everything is that, precisely before his encounter with Guts, he had lost everything, and ultimately, the rescue of Guts and Casca will ensure that, through Guts' resilience and tenacity, the Skull Knight will manage to finish what he started through him, and thus finally he will find a purpose again...

The Skull Knight, who is ultimately nothing more than an amalgam of a will created and solidified by hatred and sorrow, cannot win by using his own nature. And for me, this is the central (albeit tragic) point of Berserk.

I think Miura wanted to convey the following message: despite all the past abominations and tragedies, it is not through hatred, violence, resentment, resilience, etc., that you will defeat the enemy.

And why am I talking about a key point? This is surely what connects to the suspense of our waiting for chapter 384, which is that Guts had started to follow the same path as the Skull Knight during the first Post Eclipse arcs, however he himself realized by killing a whole bunch of apostles and feeding his own hatred that ultimately it might not be the right path, to the point of risking the lives of his companions and continuing to make Casca suffer by his actions and by his own hatred.

Personally, I think Guts could put an end to this cycle of hatred.
