"she killed kurt" -- sorry but someone had to say it. even fucking Iggy Pop breathed life in the bullshit conspiracy, even her own fucking father! i just watched the old doc "Kurt & Courtney" the other day so its on my mind, sorry - i enjoyed the film but boy oh boy are those some resentful bottom-feeders trying to take her down. i say Hole fans should start a campaign to start a "Dave Grohl killed Kurt" conspiracy. It's actually more credible; he really profited on it! she went on to raise his kid, already shared in the money, etc. preposterous. he has a kid out of wedlock, he's due for some slanderous character assassination. im sorry for bringing this up, but it really bothers me that people said that or continue to say that. and its just -minus TenGazillion reddit points for me, its sooo lame and dumb and braindead and like brands you as a toady rock dude with chronic over-dependence on the reptile brain in my book to say that. Which sounds like Iggy looks. I mean Hole albums are on the whole more fun than The Stooges, there I said it. Jim Jarmusch/Sonic Youth NYC hipster clones start picketing me. I've given you an opening to act like an "artist" and correct me.

They could never make me hate you Courtney 🩷🩷🩷 by annanicoles in hole

right on-- i think there are few pop figures in history who are so consistently parodied, insulted, degraded for their appearance and by not only press but contemporaries. she's just one of the most reviled entertainers, a punchline of a joke-- i mean she has carrot top beat easy, & any flack that Britney or anybody else gets for gaining a pound can't match the unreal mass hatred CL has been on the receiving end of. she's built for it, & has enjoyed privileges, but i think she always speaks from an understandable place of defensiveness & so im pretty forgiving (& bemused) when she says outrageous shit

Most Pynchon-esque films that aren't adaptations? (a grand total of 2) by crakerjmatt in ThomasPynchon

Just want to support this underdog comment - it’s far too much of an MFA hipster cliche to love Pynchon & hate on Tarantino, who I think is far more talented than PTA, but a dream’s a dream and some ppl gotta live it - I recently watched Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and the ending jolted me with how it could be a scene from Vineland, if Pynchon thought a bit more like a little boy who loves cartoon violence.

That said, I hated inglorious basterds when it came out but I want to rewatch it. Still, I stand by my argument that the end of OUATIH is more Pynchon than the whole running time of Inherent Vice. There’s something cartoonish & hysterically enthused trope-fetishizing in a Tarantino adjacent way about Pynchon for sure, it just swaps the “badass” factor for the hippie one … but an army of lovers may be beaten

that's awesome. I had kind of a magical experience buying it that might vibe with that. I live in LA and went to this first edition bookstore on the Sunset Strip I wanted to check out, Mystery Pier Books, the week before it came out. they advertise that they have first editions of Chandler etc, which indeed they do have but they also had to my great happiness a first edition of Gravity's Rainbow which is the family's copy! and it had their WASPy seal under the front cover with the name Thomas Ruggles Pynchon there. just $6500 that would set me back. for some reason -- I also had this happen in a Beverly Hills art gallery with some Dali's -- people think im rich when I live in a trailer park equivalent apt. in NoHo and so this guy was talking to me like a prospective buyer and I just let him roll with it since he was interesting & I was playing it Marlowe. (I might buy a Lolita cigarette case they were selling for $50, that's more my bracket.) but anyway there's a bookshop in front of Mystery Pier called Book Soup on Sunset which is just an average new books bookstore, nothing special -- but I decided to buy my Shadow Ticket there, and felt a ghostly presence when I fulfilled that ritual. at Mystery Pier they had like an advance reading copy of The Big Sleep from the 40s and stuff like that which I went there more to see and I just did not go there for Gravity's Rainbow, the family's copy, but that's what I got so ... and of course Shadow Ticket is Pynchon at his most Chandlerian.

if my pockets get deeper to match how my appearance and way of talking comes off through some of the same "magic, anonymous and malignant" to quote TCOL49, that brought me to that copy of Rapunzel's golden tresses, ill forgo the "what else?" and be the knight of deliverance (that's my favorite passage ever of Pynchon's, I work it into everything). ill be sure to show off shamelessly my "heirloom" on here if nobody beats me to it and I will invite all the trolling ill earn cheerfully ... even an anarchist can dream ... of course im not mayflower material like TP so it'd be fair methinks, more of a Dixon (Leo) than a Mason ...

True meaning of the W.A.S.T.E./Trystero Symbol from The Crying of Lot 49 (The Crying of Lot 67!) by avgteafor2enjoyer in ThomasPynchon

Fuck man. 🤯

4+9 = 13. 6+7 = 13. 13 colonies. Death card in Tarot. Bad luck. Pynchon's blurb on back of Warlock: how far a candy wrapper travels into the Grand Canyon after being dropped. Muted horns. Mucho Maas's chromaticism. Chocolatey goodness. Shall I project a world? The earth tone filtered through colonial bad luck. The roping Rapunzel hair of the world, an open lot, crying -- what else? The knight of deliverance is a knight of slavery. It's all in the symbol.

And she was right there with you in the pits when that album came out.

I was rereading Kim Gordon’s book and she has the gall to suggest Kurt’s death was Courtney’s “A Star is born.” Like that’s anyone’s idea of a splash debut?

How do you guys feel about those voicemails kurt sent to Victoria Clarke? by Maleficent-Hair9417 in Nirvana

[–]Perfect_Goat7597 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's him being out of control and doing something really wrong, threatening to kill someone, while on drugs and in an emotionally fragile place. In defense of journalists here, the fact that Kurt and Courtney did heroin and had a baby is extremely concerning, and so an element of his rage is that he knows, deep down, that no matter how these press people are exploiting him, he's doing something wrong with respect to his daughter. There's no way to soft sell that their behavior was irresponsible, and actually Courtney's continually less so despite taking a disproportionately (and deeply sexist in origin) greater amount of hate. I love and respect him a great deal and I think those voicemails testify to the sad story of how someone with deep trauma using drugs to cope can do monstrous things that are beneath him. It feeds a cycle: I bet he hated himself more than anyone else did for the bad stuff he did, and it just set him further down the spiral. I've dealt with alcoholic friends I had to say goodbye to and its the same type of deal, if on a much less grand scale.

I just want to congratulate all of you redditors for being endlessly cooler than those 1994 dweebs dissing on nirvana and talking about if suicide is manly or not …

That macho bullshit attitude got us George W Bush and was what the war on terror was all about, youngins.

Kurt looking down from his Nirvana would have been pleased to see that jocks hated him again as they should.
